Eggcellent sir, quite Eggcellent, my apologies for not being around in the chat, I made it to the premiere, but lagging kept me out of the chat for all of it. you made a good run with this one, Venasaur is my favorite, has been for since I 1st played Blue way back in the late 90's when it made it to the UK. that 1st run, went about as well as it could of, Venasaur is a beast but only at the end of the game, its movepool is quite bad as you found out despite access to sleep, growth and swords dance. your use of mimic was despite inspired I must say and quite effective, Agatha is its real challenge for it has nothing and going in with mimic strats was your best bet and worked very nicely. for the R2, you took an interesting but unsurprising route, I've used a physical set before and have found sludge bomb, earthquake and body slam to be quite effective with swords dance, sleep with Venasaur as you found is quite unreliable compared with Spore on Parasect but I guess you made it work. the 2nd run was a twist, I was quite sure you;d go for curse and go for a full physical set before you had access to swords dance, I've done pure physical Saur before in my poison runs and it works quite nicely as long as you preserve a STAB grass move for the sake of coverage. HP rock made sense it covered what you needed to cover and magical leaf is a superb move, never missing with a STAB move is a nice luxury after all. as a heads up if you intend to rerun it, you can have magical leaf on Gardivour as Kirlia in FR only can have magical leaf via the move reminder, if you can resit the urge to evolve until then, you could have as well as shock wave for it, image both of those boosted by calm mind as well as STAB psychic for good measure. did you consider anything like a Sunny day, solarbeam HP fire set for it at any point as well, it can be effective to a point but for a special saur, coverage is better with ice or psychic? overall I think Venasaur went very well, I think you have learnt much from running Parasect and you are better prepared for running the more limited grass types such as Venasaur. it suffers greatly because of its moveset but it is so good once it gets going and I still maintain the same with Parasect. I hope your runs with future grass types go just as well, Victreebel will be good one I just know it. your upcoming Charizard run will be interesting, we have spoken of it often and its access to so many great boosting move (although all of them oddly physical ones) I wonder if you will try the Swords dance VS belly drum approach we have talked of. I think it might work out the same, while setting up 3 swords dances you might take 3 hits and faint whereas with belly drum you'll lose half HP but might take 1 or no hits and be maxed out in one turn, it'll be good when it runs. I have news on the Nidoqueen run, I have got my special queen up to 53 for crunch and finally evolved. it takes every optional battle possible to do so before Erika. I suggest before Erika as Nidorina does not get ice beam or flamethrower to deal with her and being fully evolved for Silph and Sabrina after is very beneficial. I have kept water pulse and shock wave for now as the PP and coverage is just right for this point in the game. I hope your attempts with it work out just as nicely. a word of warning though. although they share much in common, the Nidos do not get the same egg moves and Queen does not get confusion as King does, a trade off I think for Queen getting bite and crunch.
@Eggsceptional9 ай бұрын
No worries at all! I was hoping that I would do our Poison dual type proud. I've absolutely loved stepping back into the Gen 1 starters so far. You raise some very good points about the first run. I feel like the majority of the resets were from sleep being so unreliable and me not knowing exactly what I was aiming for every battle. I hate to admit it, but Paras was the better sleeper. I loved being able to throw in some Mimic strats. It was a new one for me. I did try converting Saur over to Solarbeam/Sunny Day at one point in the league against Agatha. that was before going for Mimic, and it felt super lackluster. Worse so than Meganium I would say, strangely enough. With access to SD in R2 I could essentially forget it when routing, it was all about that R1 league. Physical focus with Giga Drain coverage was so strong. Stronger than I think I gave it credit for initially. There are a few Grass types that I'm really looking forward to, Victreebel among them. I know we've discussed it a fair amount already. I'm hoping it stays true to its Gen 1 dominance. I was thinking about including a segment when I'm testing where I'll test out the league with both SD and Belly Drum. I need to know which is faster/more reliable after all. I see Belly Drum being a tough one because of Rock Tombs, but I'm willing to try it out! I'm thinking there's a way. Booyeah! Nothing like having Crunch on your special attacker in FR. I don't think I've gushed about Crunch lately. Did you know that I love that move? King gets access to Confusion as an egg move? That's confusing to me. Then again I shouldn't be too surprised by that. They get SO much coverage after all. I'm hoping that my runs with them go smoothly enough. I'm so curious as to how phys/spec attacking affects time.
@jptheflipper38259 ай бұрын
@@Eggsceptional I think you did it proud, its a tough one to run and you did the best you could with what you had to work with within the 1st run. I think with better sleep luck it could of done better. on occassion I do go without sleep completely because of the accuracy luck. Spore is the best sleep move and it is hard to compare, imagine if Venasaur had access to it, it would make sense, it has a giant flower on its back, looks like it could let off some spores. of course butterfree with compound eyes making sleep powder almost never miss is a close second to that at least. Venasaur often surprised me with its physical sets, dual STAB, swords dance and earthquake (or body slam, my preference) is a very powerful combo and thats not counting the power of HP. I think the mimic strats was best for Agatha, short of cheating a HP to make everything easier for the rest of the 1st run, it was the best you could get. the Victreebel will be epic, but I warn you, it loses some of the power it had in Gen 1, mimic strats will again be a must for start as it will have the same problems that Venasaur had with Agatha. and you won't have access to earthquake if you really need it. swords dance and sludge bomb will be nice for R2, but that will still leave the R1 to deal with. also, it is a better mixed attacker as it has 100+ base in attack and special, but it will not have Venasaurs bulk. I would very much like to see how that works out for you, testing Charizards various boosting moves, Belly drum is rather simple, you boost and hope to survive a hit, then if it does, you sweep. the others will come down to how much you set up before deciding to attack. I assume you'll keep flamethrower on it handy for some high power STAB. and I don't think I need to guess the 2 physical moves you'll be giving all of them. Blastoise by comparison will run a lot more simply, it has no boosting options and can mix attack as much as you like, the real issue with it is choosing which 4 moves you have on it, we need more than 4 moves some days. I think Blastoise will run much like the Nidos, decent stats, mixed attacking and a good move pool to back up both. Crunch is awesome so far, I crunched Sabrina to pieces (giggity) and I think the rest of the game will be the same, I eggpect a reset or 2 in some places in the league, but not until then. with the special set, I am finding certain special tanks a problems, Muk's are a real pain because they just tank everything and then set up more defense or evasion, Hypnos can also tank a crunch too. confusion as an egg move is odd, it gets it from Slobro I think as well as Amnesia to boost special defense, again odd. the coverage of the Nidos is so big, the only moves they don't get are grass and flying, but thats what HP is for I guess. you'll love running them.

@@jptheflipper3825 Ahh JP, I'm Canadian, and I can't help but say sorry again. I've really missed the mark with my replies lately. Sleep Powder is such a tough choice to make. It CAN be so effective, but it's so unreliable. Especially since they introduced being able to move on your wake up turn. If only Venusaur got Spore.. if only. I could make that happen.. but it's cheaty :P I loved being able to throw in a Mimic strat that worked. I think it made Agatha much easier. I also learned that Shadow Punch can't miss (it's a move that I never use). Super nifty trick for R1 Gengar! I can't recall off the top of my head does Victreebel get Growth as well? If so, there's a way through R1 it just may require a bit of grinding. In the first run anyway.... in the second I already know what egg move I'm choosing :D It's funny... The video is about to premiere so I don't mind spoiling this. I barely did any testing. I did one run of the league with Charizard starting where he did in my playthrough. That's all I needed. Charizard was a BLAST. Blastoise was about how I eggspected it go. Solid, but without the boosting move there were different challenges. The egg move is a puzzler. Yesssss Crunch everything. What level did you end up attempting the leagues at? Muks can always be a pain for sure and I find myself always underestimating how bulky Drowzee/Hypno are in SpD. They're a good gut check when you're stomping through with Surf :P Don't the Nidos get Aerial Ace? So does that just leaf grass? ...ha
@jptheflipper38259 ай бұрын
@@Eggsceptional its ok, I know you are a busy boy over there and have a lot of work to do, I did miss the Tuesday stream, I had been looking forward to that. sleep powder could of worked if you stuck with it but the lack of perfect accuracy is always a concern. spore would of been a little too broken on it, spore and swords dance or growth is a little much on something that is as good as Venasaur especially in later gens where its movepool expanded. and I think you have demonstrated that for the sake of entertainment and the satisfaction of curiosity, a little cheaty is ok. mimic strats = fun strats my friend, I knew you'd have fun with that one. and yeah shadow punch never misses, it is a shame that its always physical and can't be used to its full effect by a lot of ghosts, you made good use of it with mimic. I am working on a finding something that can have a set of all never miss moves, imagine having something that will literally never miss? could work as a Smeargle sense if nothing else Victreebel does, it gets it early as well, so boosting before evolving will be nice, the real trick is holding off the leaf stone until razor leaf. Victreebel has a slightly worse set than Venasaur so choosing your nature and stat spread as well as R1 and R2 movepools will require a lot of thought. mimic strats might come into play again as well as a 1st run HP. having not long watched Charizard I see why, it just worked and it was fairly epic. Blastoise will be interesting to see. I maintain it will run much like my Nidos have recently, although much less specialized, mixed attacking will work nicely for it, STAB surf of course, ice beam when you need it of course, but mostly a physical set to make sure you have coverage for nearly every battle. I did crunch everything, it was great for neutral damage. nope no aerial ace or grass moves aside from HP. I genuinely thought the Nidos got aerial ace, so much so that ruined some plans for King which I have had to account for with physical queen. hypnos and muks were a pain but I got through them. oddly I never went with surf, water pulse worked until I had ice beam, special queen is not easy and for how you run your runs, a mixed set might be better, King can go full special vs physical much easier

Actually on the way to berry forest if u have less than 2 pkmn, the twins will not engage u iirc since they should follow the RSE double trainer mechanics, so u will not break the mechanic :) The mimic strategy was cool though, it reminds me so much of regular gen 1 runs. Regarding egg move, I was thinking u may have went for a setup move like curse, since it was so dominent in gen 2 runs, and it would have paired well with the lonely nature,maybe even brave nature can work if we are going curse strats, but magical leaf does solve some issues, everyone knows the ace of our rival is always birdbrain, the bane of solo runs. Wondering if u will be taking any pokemon suggestions for future runs? Such as a ninjask vs Shedinja (Shedinja can't fully complete the game using league 2 rules though)

My last 3 fire red runs used each starter as part of my team. (I still hate charizard and I'm not sorry, Americans and Canadians alike can disagree on pokemons) Catching pokemon has been more difficult with the squirtle line as I've had to catch 3 different pokemon to use sleep to catch enough. that being said, I Feel like keeping sleep powder for a long time is CRUCIAL for any sort of bulby run. not gonna lie though, in traditional red/blue I feel that squirtle is the ONLY option to select. It's really a no-brainer based on typing alone. The only typing that rules supreme above water imo in OG kanto is Psychic.

Whoo!! Let's go Venusaur!!! This is a great vid and loved every second of it (even if every time Charizard showed up it made me flash back to my brother's Charizard and I felt every bit of pain from the resets it costed you) was pretty sure you would go with the moves you chose but Mimic was an interesting choice for Agatha and Lance in the first run (also never knew that there was a hidden nugget in Copycat's room...though part of me would feel bad taking it since it feels like you're stealing a kid's allowance) Also I can't remember if I asked this before or if someone has asked this but you always edit the save to have the Pokédex requirements for the Sevii Islands and to get the Item Finder for the Leftovers after the Round 1 League but couldn't you edit the file beforehand to get Leftovers as soon as possible since you have to get to Cycling Road anyways or is it faster for some reason to wait until Round 2 or are Leftovers just not needed for Round 1?
@Eggsceptional9 ай бұрын
Ahhh there were a lot of resets to that Charizard but what can you do right? Grass types are gonna Grass type. I kind of felt bad taking the Nugget worth $5000 from her, then buying a less expensive Poké doll in exchange for Mimic.. but only a little :P The only reason that I leave the Leftovers out of Round 1 is because of the catch requirement. It's 60 for Round 2, so I add those between runs, but if a Pokémon happens to need Leftovers to complete the Round 1 league I feel that's something they should have to grind and catch for. Leftovers are wicked strong after all.
@lumineinfinitussilverkagat80949 ай бұрын
That makes sense and is a valid reason for Round 1 Leftovers Also I guess the nugget is her savings for the doll but is also probably a failsafe if the player has no money, no items to sell, and no way to use payday as a way to keep them from being locked out from getting the Mimic TM in the Gen 1 games...though having no money is more of an issue if you haven't gotten surf from the Safari Zone since then you would be softlocked if you had absolutely no way to pay for the fee to get in, in Yellow they built in a failsafe where the guard will give you one safari ball so you can enter for free and grab the Surf HM but it wasn't in Red and Blue. Another note about the Nugget in Copycat's room is in the original Red and Green that nugget was one of 6 hidden items that not only were undetectable by the item finder since the code considered them to have already been collected but if you picked up one of them the other 5 would disappear until you left a fossil to be revived at Cinnabar@@Eggsceptional Edit: I actually got the info on the 6 broken hidden items wrong when it comes to why the item finder can't locate them, Instead, five of these six items have another set of coordinates that the Item finder believes them to be located at instead, although there is no item hidden at that position.

@@bateltheassistant Absolutely! I hope you've been enjoying Meganium. It was a bit of a struggle in my first run, but with Ancientpower it was fun :D Speaking of HP Rock/Rock moves in general... I hope so! Honestly, I don't need to be a big KZbinr or anything. I would love to be able to live my life, doing something I love, working hard.. Ahh that's the dream. I'll get there :)

@@Eggsceptional Meganium's run is pretty unique, because I needed to think how to route everything, because I want the little guy to get comparable results with Typhlosion's time. That's why I'm doing more than 20+ runs to make sure that it will have a shot. 😂 Just being able to make your hobby a full time job sounds like a dream come true. I have a feeling that because of your hard work a lot of people will enjoy your content, because the way you portray the journey of these runs is kind of special,in my humble opinion.😄 Anyways, I can't wait for the new run.

@@bateltheassistant Holy moly! 20+ runs! That's some Meganium dedication. What game are you running this in? Crystal? I really hope Meganium can do well, but against Typhlosion? I don't know :P It's been a minute since I Gen 2'd but I remember haaating playing with Chikorita and loving Typhlosion as a kid. That's the dream after all :D It's less that it's a hobby and more that I've never had a creative outlet like this. That alone has been such an incredible change in my life, never mind the plethora of other great changes. I appreciate you saying that. I love a good story! I hope you enjoy the next one :)

when i was 8 years old i basically solo'd with a venusaur (i didn't train anything else..) solely because it had sleep powder leech seed stall strats now past gen 6 im glad powder/spore moves got nerfed because that's annoying in competitive
@Eggsceptional4 ай бұрын
I never played competitively myself, but with how badly you can cheese the AI with these tactics, I can only imagine being on the receiving end. In my first playthrough of White (on stream), there were quite a few fights that I won off of Leech Seed stall bologna alone

8 minutes in, and I'm not sure Agatha's going to be a fun fight. Will this be the mythical HP ghost? 40 minutes in, and my disappointment about HP is slightly assuaged by double Helix

Do the stats on the overlay include badge boosts? If not, that might have been why you still outsped hitmonlee
@Eggsceptional9 ай бұрын
They should and have up until this point. It occurs to me that I may have had Hitmonlee's nature wrong and he's perhaps -Speed? There are so many things I still feel I don't know about this game.

Is badge boost a thing in this gen?
@Eggsceptional9 ай бұрын
There are badge boosts, yes, but no glitch that re-applies them like in Gen 1. It's just a flat 10% boost to various stats as you collect badges.
