I'd have to agree w/ those who commend Cyndi on picking one of Lennon's more obscure songs to perform at this tribute. And the huskiness she brings to the vocal is just "rough enough." As for her ability to rock, I'm surprised that some ppl are surprised!

I love when people who usually do pop stuff can do a great job on a rock tune. It shows they have more to them than what they usually perform. Plus, she picked a more obscure Beatles song. I have new respect for Cyndi Lauper for doing this.

This is a live performance,the Beatles version was processed in a recording studio. Pity about the video quality,but this sounds heavy and Cyndi sounds great!

its kickass....your bias because you think of Cyndi as some fluff pop star who sings "Girls just wanna have fun"..the band is smokin hot and Cyndi is wailing with some serious rock and roll attitude...Im a monster Beatles fan .trust me..and I love the original...but plain and simple ..this version kicks some serious ass...Id like to hear some of todays "artists" try to cover it...I shudder at the thought!

The solo is ok. As has been said, it's not The Beatles. Is everyone who covers a Beatles song supposed to do an exact duplicate? Lauper is a unique artist and her take on this song and other Lennon classics such as Working Class Hero and Strawberry Fields while always respectful of the original, are also unique and that's what makes her an A level recording artist.

you're right, it's not the Beatles, but I feel that guitar solo is out of his place because it seems to me it's not fit to the song. The rhythm of the song is another kind of thing, the tune is another kind, the melody is another kind. I WOULD HAVE really liked this version except that her singing was incredibly sloppy, sounded like she had marbles in her mouth or something. Beatles version each and every single word is clearly enunciated. Also the jagger-esque pronunciation of MEE being sung as may' is annoying here. I like the guitar mix better here than on the original, where it is too far in the background
