it was her label telling her to be like Madonna; at this time CBS/Epic records was purchased by Sony. Tommy Mattola was about to enter the picture and she knew she was in trouble. So..to slightly cave in with the labels demand and keep a 'streak' of her rebel self ... this image here is the result. AND her relationship with her Manager/Boy Friend completely crumbled. As a manager he was pressured to keep her more commercial but as her Boy Friend/lover the two worlds collided ... badly and this collision between the two actually started late True Colors era. As a result of bad timing / new label head / Artistic Control / poor Label support ... Cyndi had to reorganize herself and make a decision. Sadly the album fizzled; there was no faith in it. 1 top 10 hit and a Grammy nomination for best female rock performance (she lost to Bonnie Raitt) The War between Cyndi and label had begun. 1990..Enter ... Mariah Carey.

this happens for a reason. now, its 2019 and Cyndi lauper is not just a legend but a Composer and she is very consistent on her carerr and personal life . Sad to say shes always being compared to" madonna whos until now chasing younger men"
