THE PURE EMOTIONS THAT BOTH OF THEM EVOKE COMES FROM THEIR SPIRIT. A TRUE SINGER SINGS FROM THEIR BEING (SPIRIT/HEART) AND IT TAKES THE LISTENER ON A BEAUTIFUL JOURNEY. I remember seeing this special. Patti Labelle had a series of guests on and did a "duet" with each one, which pretty much meant vocally dominating one guest after another. I recall poor little Amy Grant standing onstage looking miserable and confused. Then out came the one guest who could keep up with her, Cyndi Lauper. I don't think people expected it because Lauper used a lot of hiccuppy vocal affectations when she first broke nationally, but I had heard her with Blue Angel and knew she had as much power as Labelle. Great, great duet, one of the best ever.

I absolutely LOVE Cyndi Lauper, but as good as she is, no, she does not have anywhere near the vocal power of Labelle.....

She’s very nervous singing with Patti LaBelle. She doesn’t even wanna look at it. Yet beautiful.
