Peyton, Everyone who is perplexed about why Harriet Tubman is looking at her hands in the opening scene of the trailer. She had just crossed over into Pennsylvania (a free state) and she was so overwhelmed to be free, that she said (in her own words): "When I found I had crossed that line, I looked at my hands to see if I was the same person. There was such a glory over everything; the sun came like gold through the trees, and over the fields, and I felt like I was in heaven."

@Mocha Brown Nah. Its just this Erivo person. I don't like her because she disrespected Black Americans so I can never support any film or project with her in it. I won't write off the whole universe of Black British/African actors though. Hating on them is a recent phenomenon. Sidney Portier, Harry Belafonte played numerous Black American roles and Black Americans not only didn't complain, but they embraced them. I haven't heard any women complaining about Idris Elba. As long as Black British/African actors are respectful towards native Black Americans then I'm cool with them playing AA roles. But absolutely no support for Erivo.

The great Denzel Washington portrayed South African Steve Biko in "Cry Freedom;" Don Cheadle portrayed Paul Rasesagabina in "Hotel Rawanda;" Forest Whitaker portrayed Idi Amin in "Last King of Scotland;" Jennifer Hudson portrayed Winnie Mandela in "Winnie Mandela"...with Terrence Howard as Nelson Mandela; and for now...Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela in "Invictus!" Our African Brothers and African Sisters did not have a problem with this! They didn't denigrate any of the aforementioned actors and actress! They didn't boycott their movies! Araminta's (Harriet Tubman's) grandmother "Modesty" was brought to America on a slave ship. She was owned by the Pattison Plantation. She gave birth to Araminta's mother Harriet (Rit) Green around 1790. Actors and actresses generally go through an auditions process to get a particular role. Some studios select their own principle protagonist, based upon their exceptional abilities to bring characters to life! Cynthia Erivo is a great actress, singer and dancer! Regarding what she allegedly said or didn't say, some of us talk about each other! Some of us excoriate each other! Booker T. Washington referred to it as "The Crabs In The Barrel Syndrome!" Anyway, not only do I love this trailer, I am extremely excited to see this movie! I also embrace Cynthia Erivo! This movie is about bringing the great "Harriet Tubman's Legacy" to the big screen, to the global stage! And, I thank God for that!

Maceo Leon Thomas Denzel Washington, Forrest Whittaker, Don Cheadle, (even Jennifer Hudson), Morgan Freeman & Will Smith, are ‘A List’ actors -INTERNATIONALLY respected, multi-Award-winning and accomplished actors with several DECADES of film, television and stage/theatre experience. So this argument goes beyond Cynthia Erivo’s ignorance and disrespect toward ADOS and their unique history. There were far more qualified American actresses that should have played the Harriet Tubman role. Additionally, Cynthia Erivo, despite her lovely singing voice, is soooo not qualified or vocally soulful or powerful enough or capable of the Black American Church Gospel sound to play Aretha Franklin for National Geographic, a British owned company (UK). Cynthia is the “It” girl who is supported by Oprah Winfrey and other major players so she will receive many opportunities that should go to other American actresses. Three of Cynthia’s possible EGOT distinction all come from one American production-“The Color Purple” which is required reading for American youth. Cynthia E. did not even read Alice Walker’s award-winning book, “The Color Purple” before acting in the UK 🇬🇧 theatre production. That book 📚 is required reading for American youth. She is ignorant about the unique American chattel slavery system and the vestiges and continued historical injustices. I personally know Black American actors that struggle for roles so it is more than understandable that people would resent the ‘Red Carpet’ being rolled out and the heavy promotion of Cynthia E., a 1st generation British woman of Nigerian descent.

So they got a black actress, non-american from a country that has very strict gun control laws. I wonder if this Foreigner believes in the American Civil Right to keep and bear arms??? Also known as the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights. Did the filmmakers for this film send the actress to a firearms training academy? And give her the same training in Firearms that actor Keanu Reeves received prior to his performance in the films John Wick? Press Reports say that he spent six to eight months at the gun range training with professionals so that his gun handling skills on the screen would be accurately portrayed. Halle Berry also received this same firearms training prior to her performance in the latest John Wick film. As a black gun owner who knows the history of racist gun control laws in the United States this aspect of the film Harriet is important to me. White conservatives are far more reliable in defending the gun civil rights of black people. Than the racist white liberals who write and support racist gun control laws. Black Guns Matter!!!

"The Great Harriet Tubman" was so awesome!!! Amongst the many, many, many things that she did for us, in 1903 she donated the property she had purchased for "African American Aged And Poor" to the AME Zion Church. On June 23, 1908 the AME Zion Church had a day long dedication for the home, which they renamed "The Harriet Tubman Home." The celebration included: a parade, prayers and speeches, a band concert, a dinner, an evening reception and a dance. The great Harriet Tubman was the guest of honor. When she was asked to speak she said this, "I did not take up this work for my own benefit, but for those of my race who need help. The work is now well started and I know God will raise up others to take care of the future." Simply amazing! Taken from "Harriet Tubman: Road To Freedom" by Catherine Clinton, pages 209 and 210. I can't wait to see "Harriet!" I will purchase tickets for elementary and high school students to see "Harriet."

This movie was captivating, enlightening, deeply moving, and inspiring. The acting, action, and music are superb. My 13-year-old loved it so much, that he begged to see it again.

Yes! I also agree. Put Harriet Tubman on a $20 bill. In fact put her on $100 bill for the 100 miles she ran to freedom all by herself. 👊✌💗

This is blatant disrespect by the WS filmmakers. Watch an immigrant play Fred Hampton. I’m telling you that it’s coming

Some of you are so full of yourselves. Why can’t we all identify as black people, respect and celebrate our differences? We’re going no where with this foolishness. For crying out loud, racists don’t see ADOS, they see black!!!!! Stop with the division already.

I thought she did amazing. She got a nomination for this movie obviously she did something right by playing this role. So yay that’s my two cents. Bring on the hate. She did great and she’s a lovely person.

everyone involved in the making this movie, along with the media outlets that are helping advertise it should be disgusted with themselves. Shame on you all for what you have done to our ancestors legacy. SHAME. #NotMyHarriet #ADOS
