And my mom is in the process of selling her late father's house since no one actually lives there anymore. I helped with renovating the place over the course of half a year with weekly 3-day trips out of state to help out. At one point during the renovations I got smacked in the head by a fossilized tennis ball that fell out of the roof in the living room.

I totally understand your pain, I remember when my grandmother was hit with dementia the last time I went to visit her, she couldn't remember me at all.
