For anyone needing like dumbed down version of DDOS. We’ll just say that the data being sent into anything such as your memory, storage, internet connection and so on are called “packets”. DDOS would be a “packet attack” where someone can forcibly send you data disrupting your connection to specific things and overloading your computer. Aka it’s illegal to do so. The generic way of putting it is: “Asshole removes your PC’s access to the internet via packet disrupting.” Which is why people get put into offline or they just can’t connect to things. Depending on the severity of the DDOS attack they can hold your PC hostage and not allow you to do anything on it via the internet. I think they get your IP address via the program and attack it directly so not just your PC takes the hit. All your devices will, if they really want to do so. I tried my best to not use any terms and basic wording so it’s somewhat easy to understand but maybe I made it more confusing. I have experienced first hand because an idiot friend was able to do so then accidentally sent an attack on his own IP address😂

@@pointyposeidon I mean, there was a recent case of something like that in pro apex too, don't think it is that weird when other games have them happening, ow in specific seems to be brimming with them right now though

@@beepboopbeepp FPS games usually run on a single server where any client knows the IP when the OW2 client connects and sends/receives the packets, just extract with a 3rd party program the IP address. Then if you have access to some botnet then start DDOS-ing that OW2 server. DDOS is actually a distributed attack where for example 100k hacked devices on the internet are sending packets to the attacked server, each one could be at any random place, for example a hacked router in portugal or a hacked baby monitoring camera in iceland :) There are botnets on the internet that one can rent for a limited time and do these attacks, it cannot be traced back to your specific OW2 client by technical means, but here its clear who is doing it lol. There could be various defenses in place against this, but i guess blizzard never invested too much in securing some low cost gaming servers. As we know even basic anti-cheat tech is not used, otherwise they could have automatically banned spin bots, no human can move like that.
