I am very impressed! I thought you did a great job in describing each step and how to do it. I appreciate that you actually took your CZ down to demonstrate. I watched another video where they tried to talk through it with a very minimal demonstration. I have saved this page to watch again. Thanks.

Rather than going threw all this disassembling, cut a small piece of tin solder and place on the bolt. Close bolt on solder than remove and measure it. Tool maker lead set. Use this method every tool set up to check shut height.

Another method to measure 22lr rim thickness. First obtain a "once fired" .223 REM brass case. Be sure to have a good quality digital calipers (Mitutoyo). Next, measure the length of the once fired .223REM from the base to the top of the case rim. Next, take a unfired .22lr and insert the bullet fully into the once fired .223 REM case. Now take your calipers and measure from the base of the .223 REM to the base of the inserted .22lr cartridge Now take your first measurement of the empty .223 REM case and subtract that number from the second measurement that you took. The difference is the .22lr rim thickness. Very easy to set up and collect a lot of data quickly.

Nice method, the gun is already very accurate so is there a value in doing this procedure?

@@thomaskingsbury6560 I don't get this. I have never thought about headspace with weapons until I thought about changing barrels. Is this all overkill? Shouldn't the rifle be fire ready out of the box? I bought this rifle to be accurate, not to have to gunsmith it. It is just for plinking and varmint control.

@@teleguy5699 I have two of these rifles, they are both lites out accurate even with Remington golden bullets.Eley tenex shoots even better. That is why I raise the question. Now for competition shooters it might be different as 22 lr is now entering long range shooting competitions. But for me my 457’s with a 22 lr Hawke scope at 50 yards is eating out the bullseye. The Hawke is one of the few scopes that has parallax adjustments as close as 15 yards. Check out Hawke optics .

@@thomaskingsbury6560 Thanks for the tip. My FFL guy and a gunsmith says headspace on this .22 is much ado about nothing. especially for a non competitive shooter as myself. I ended up getting the Leupold 3x9x33 which has a adjustment down to almost 10 yards I've heard.

Personally I would torque the barrel nuts to 22lbs then proceed to 44lbs. it's just good practice to split torque specs so it's force is applied evenly. Good stuff, about to check my new 457 Varmint. I'll do a stock testing of ammo then test with different shims on my best ammo from the stock test. Easy enough to change the shims on the shooting bench. Cheers

Bolt shims are nothing but snake oil. As long as headspace is within spec and not so far out ignition issues there's no reason to do this on a relatively new rifle

I purchased the Bolt Shims for my CZ 457 and tried to review the information on the triggershims web site to better undstand 22 headspacing and recommendations for installation. However, I did not find a good instruction video that walked you through the whole process, UNTILL NOW. You did an outstanding job with this video and I want to say "Thanks". Many of the viewers asked if the accuracy improved with the .003" shim? I have never headspaced a 22 rifle before and decided to purchase the "Triggershims" for my CZ 457. My CZ 457 shoots extremely well, but 1 out of 20 rounds I get a fly when shooting 200 yards. I hope this helps: HOWEVER, I have headspaced many center fire rifles and never left 0.000" headspace. Is the 22 rimfire headspacing different than a centerfire headspace. On my centerfire cases, I always headspace .001" or .002" for extreme long range target shooting. Should the 22 rimfire be allow to have .001" headspace? Like I said, I have never headspaced a rimfire rifle before. I question if zero headspace is correct for a 22 rimfire. Please help me if you can.

If the bolt doesn’t feel too tight at .000 I’d go with it otherwise .001 would be fine.

So I'm assuming the ammo use has a rim thickness of .040. The spec for 22lr ammo is .043 - .007 thick. You may encounter a .043 thick standard spec round and the bolt won't close? My CCI sv usually measures .042
@sn1p3rsb
@sn1p3rsb 4 ай бұрын
Get yourself a set of graduated headspace gauges a million times quicker than removing a barrel. But I can say with almost absolute certainty 0.041" - 0.042" is all you will ever need even with eley ammo.
@ianpaterson5000
@ianpaterson5000 9 ай бұрын
There is a wide variation in rim thickness on .22 ammunition. Why I don't know. How hard can it be to press a good rim? This is evident in my CZ 457 MTR which is advertised as having a match chamber and headspace on the low end other spec. Some brands of ammunition chamber well with the bolt closing firmly. Some verge on being tight. Other ammunition is so loose the bolt closes with little to no force. My plan is to identify the properly fitting ammunition and find the one the rifle shoots well. If the ammunition ever changes it will be evident when the bolt is closed.
