I wish someone would compare out the box vs out the box

I wanted a 22LR Longer Range rifle to target shoot. Just setting up my CZ457 Varmint Precision Chassis. For me it was the best choice because a 700 trainer wasn't important. I like the 60 degree bolt rather than 90 degree on the Bergara B14R. Out of the box the CZ 457 trigger feels really good. Adding a Vortex scope with the Area 419 30 MOA adapter / Magpul Bipod & I'm done. Not expensive Vs the high end rifles.

Just went down this road recently for my daughter.. decided to go wo the the pro varmint 457.. what many don’t know but CZ reps are on record of saying is the pro varmint is an mtr setup but at a fraction of the cost.. it’s the best entry level platform to start with the 457 especially if at some point you’re likely going to reach a point where the chassis and barrel might be swapped out down the road. It’s a lot easier to do that later on when you paid a few hundred less for the same rifle.. As for cost.. anyone going down the long road of swapping barrels and/or chassis you’re going to spend the same give or take at the end of the day overall regardless of which of these starting points you come to unless you start with the pro varmint then you’ll be $300 or so to the green.. but out the box that Boyd’s stock leaves a lot to be desired.. it is properly free floater though and being wood and bull barrel it is a good starter platform to get the basics.. (bipod, trigger, “will need to get the extended mag release! No clue why the factory one is almost recessed into the stock” and a tika cheek riser if you’re willing to drill the holes though the factory stock) the b14 is a really nice rifle but I don’t see it being any better a platform to work from then the cz. Especially if you get pro varmint and build off that action and barrel. The precision chassis is decent but imop not worth the cost difference and likely going to get reloaded anyways so I don’t see the need to buy it out the box when you could almost pick up an mdt for same cost difference. Reality is.. either one of these is more capable then 9/10 people who will purchase either of them. One last thing.. idc what trigger you can get in that 700 platform.. the timely for the 457 is really nice and takes 2min to swap in. Never been a trigger snob but after finishing my daughters build out the box it needed zero adjustment to creep or over travel.. the cleanest break I’ve ever seen and you can’t even tell you moved the trigger when pulling it and that’s at the factory presets.. for take up, pull and over travel..

Both great competitive guns at a close price point. B14 for me, 3.5k plus rounds and the bolt cycle resistance on closing has eased considerably. The tight open close is for the most part a head space shim. If you need to ease it from the get go then there’s after market shim kits available, easy to install when deep cleaning your bolt, $11.00 from memory. My mate shoots the CZ and I’d be happy to own his and he my Bergara.

I always enjoy your video's. Once I recover from my recent burden of house repairs I am definitely saving up for a CZ 457. I really like shooting my 22's, but as of late I've been getting more and more into reloading and precision shooting with my Tikka T3X Tac A1 in 6.5 Creedmoor, but traveling to a range that's 800 - 1200 yards is not something I get to do so easily. I like the ease of ability to change barrels on the 457, I like the short throw of the bolt on my 22's, and I absolutely love the look and adjustability of the MDT chassis. 100-200 yard shooting is something I can do every weekend, so between the precision bug and access to short shooting range's this is something that is very do-able for me.

@@PursuitofAccuracy I completely agree that weight won't matter much on the tip of a tank trap. My question was more pointed towards your comparison of it on the bench. The scope cam footage was of your 457 on a bench and I assume it was with your wider bipod set further forward. From an apples to apples comparison the same weight, same bipod, shot from a bench I would think the difference would be negligible. I want a .22 for 90% target shooting at the range, and 10% shooting squirrels. I’m torn between a CZ457 varmint and a 10/22 custom. What’s a good rifle set up for under $1200 total with scope?
@andrewlemoine57092 жыл бұрын
Question is just how far are you looking to shoot? Also do you plan on hunting from supported positions? I specifically bought. Bergara BMR for small game hunting. Its much lighter than both my 457s (pro varmint and varmint prec trainer) as they both are in the 10-11lb range with the glass i have on them. The BMR is 6.7lbs with the scope i have on it. Its perfect to shoot up to 150-180 yards whereas both the CZs have no problem out to 320. The ruger custom shop my buddy shoots fine out to about 150 yards are so. He did say it likes the more expensive ammo and has issues cycling some of the cheap stuff. Kinda reminds me of the BXR carbon(10/22 clone bergara made). I personally find the Bxr is just as good, lighter and much cheaper. If you want the best out of a semi auto 22 then a KIDD build is still much better and just a bit more in price. If you want a bolt gun it comes down to how far you want to shoot and how much you wanna spend. My opinion is the BXR or BMR would both make great starter rifles at a well thought out price.

There is no set number lol.. eventually you’ll get to know your rifle.. when it’s not longer holding groups it should then you’ll know it’s due to be cleaned. General rule is somewhere around the 150-300 round mark but depends a lot on the barrel length and the ammo being shot as to how dirty or clean it stays.. Wax line bullets will require more cleaning then oil lined ones simply cause it’s a thicker and as such retains more grit and build up.. Only thing you can really do is take 500 or so rounds same ammo on a clean gun to the range and shoot same distance till you’re groups open up a little. Once that happens you know you’re beyond the cleaning cycle for said setup..

I use both but prefer the B14r by long shot as it doesn't give me no problems like CZ does constantly.
@danielmastrangelo37782 жыл бұрын
In regards to aftermarket barrels for the b14r..... I've heard a lot of chatter about the ibi, but it seems like nobody is posting groups to prove it's superiority to the factory barrell. Plus by the time you grab a b14r barrelled action, and new barrel, you're in vudoo/rim x territory. Only an crazy person would take a modded b14r over a vudoo/rim x lol

One thing Bergara needs to do is make an effort to fix their B-14 .22lr mags. Those plastic lips on top last maybe one year max. of normal use then you have to buy a new mag. We have fixed the problem but Bergara won't listen. Guess they make more money selling new mags every year to owners

@@PursuitofAccuracy I feel the T1x is the better made rifle and seems to be the most reliable especially in the sub-freezing temps. The CZ seems to be more popular for the same reason as the 10/22...not because it's better but because there are more options to mod it. Good job on the channel.

@@bobheale2521 As far as reliability goes ive never had a more reliable rifle than the 457. That action in the video has close to 20k rounds through it and has never had an issue. Ive shot that action in the mdt chassis with a broken mag well (clean breaks in 3 spots) and it fed and functioned perfectly. I only realized it was broken when i pulled the action

Thanks. Entry level to competitive shooting, but I agree its very subjective

@@PursuitofAccuracy I would put them mid range. The likes of ruger/savage as entry and the RimX and Vudoo at the other end. But being UK based it’s mostly CZ and Bergara at the comps. RimX and Vudoo are very rare. I’ve never seen one.

Neither one of these are representing the original firearms and I’d bet they do not fit into the entry level (meaning less than $1050 for entry level competition requirement). Show us factory issue firearms and compare. I know that’s been done and I’ve seen them. This is more like NASCAR where all the cars are the same and just decorated differently.
@PursuitofAccuracy2 жыл бұрын
In the video im talking about the actions and how they shoot and feel. The actions on both are completely stock. Why is that relevant? Because both can be modified but aftermarket parts dont change the overall feel of the rifle.
@joshmartin2082 жыл бұрын
I disagree he’s done them, he has the videos posted. I appreciate them being messed with because it fits a huge portion of shooters who don’t leave things “stock”. Open class is just as important as base class. Imo..
@PursuitofAccuracy2 жыл бұрын
@@joshmartin208 exactly. Most people stay in base class for a few matches then go open. If your at a match your there to challenge yourself....open class is where the competition is.

Now this vid is funny....... You did not shoot both guns like you shot the Savage a month or so ago. Like a 12-year-old kid shooting beer cans with a 1022. This vid better ammo and you shot slow. Must be Bergara and CZ added some meat to the stew that you serve up. I DO NOT OWN A SAVAGE FIREARM AND THERE ARE NONE IN MY HOUSE! The reason I say that on my post on the Savage you did some time ago you said I am hung up on a Savage. I do not own one. But the question is what do you own when you're doing these vids? Finfire Annie and Rem 40 for me. Paid for and mine. Anytime you and me on the Green monster or a IR 50/50 target. But that will never happen your to busy serving up stew. Dinner is served.
