In swan lake, the actual choreography is opposite between the white and black swans. the white swan's dancing is flowy and soft, while the black swan's dance is sharp, jagged, and quick.
@nationalinstituteofcheese30122 сағат бұрын
As opposed to in the movie where the white swan is quick and naive while the black swan is slow and seductive, almost teasing while the white swan is like an innocent creature not wanting to be wrapped up with a more intimidating figure (I believe, pls correct me if I’m wrong)

I did not expect Blackswan to get a video. I LOVE THIS!! ‼️‼️SPOILER‼️‼️ I liked your interpretation and the parallels of The Wrestler and Blackswan. I use to be a WWE fan, and have seen many careers fade over 15 years of viewership where wrestlers tried to claim their former glory but couldn’t. I took Nina’s fade of white as she went out in a blaze of glory while the wrestler’s black out was a star that burned out.

I find it funny that Perfect blue is regarded as "inspiration" for black swan when black swan is straight up a rip off perfect blue. The director even denied the similarities in interviews at the time even when black swan copied entire scenes down to the camera angles.

I was a dancer from 4 to 18. As well as modeling, and pageants. I still suffer from body image issues due to growing up in that environment. There is SO much pressure at such an young age to be perfect, to be thin that sticks with you.

there’s no better example of how humanity sees ourselves in art which will always touch us where we are than youtubers telling us “this is just like youtube actually!” which might seem sort of baffling but the art is just doing its thing of meeting us where we are. kind of adorable really. I grew up in ballet en pointe so a lot of the metaphor will apply and sort of remain in the dance world for me but everyone will see where they are humans are very cute that way.

11:09 I can see why she would panic. Even if she is a good dancer, she got the part not because of a technical audition but because of this weird interaction. So, she's kinda right to feel like an imposter, and she would be treated as such by members of the company if she failed.

The movie is more a metaphor for Nina's Borderline Personality Disorder and her breaking free from it. The movie starts with her mother's constant lack of emotional boundaries. This is held by many scholars as one of the main ways that this particular mental pathology develops. As the movie proceeds, Mila's character "Lily" is introduced as a foil to Nathalie's character, "Nina". In the Borderline analogy, Lily is Nina's "Special Friend". Borderline also has to do with "good object" and "bad object" Internalization. "Sugar and Spice" that are responsible for the Borderline's indecisiveness and mood lability. Her "fantasies" and later "perfectionism", are thus, a "reaction formation" against her Borderline state brought upon her mother's emotionally incestuous boundariless parenting. As the movie proceeds, you see Nina try to become like Lily. In one of her "fantasies", they merge sexually. Metaphorically, Nina has, at this point, absorbed Lily as a "good object". From that point on, Nina's "fantasies" revolve around detaching from her (even killing her in her final "fantasy"). Right around killing her, she sees true hallucinations meaning her psychoticism is working. When she performs the Black Swan dance, she does it "perfectly". This strive for "perfectionism" revolves around the theory that emotional Dysregulation cannot exist at the same time as "perfectionistic" styles (narcissism, avoidance, compulsions). It is either one or the other; never both. Perfectionism is analogous with psychotic-adjacent states such as narcissism which are fantasy-based, delusional, "perfectionistic" thought patterns. It does technically fit the definition of Psychosis and Psychosis is generally viewed by many scholars as a way to disengage Borderline by breaking away from the good-bad object, confused orientation and emotional dysregulation. Her fantasies and perfectionism, are thus, a "reaction formation" against her Borderline state brought upon by her mother's emotionally incestuous, boundariless parenting. When Borderlines hurt themselves it is to feel "real". Another way her psychotic breaks are bringing her more "into reality." So to break free from her Borderline state, she had to "feel pain" by stabbing herself to perform the scene "perfectly". Whether she lives or dies from her wound, doesn't matter - as she technically was not living in the Borderline, purgatorious mental state. And in a way, the film ends with her beneath many people covered in blood, as babies are. It was her "rebirth" into the world ("proper reality.") It is actually a beautiful movie and Nathalie was very deserving of her Oscar win. It is a woman's fight to "break free" and enter reality on her own terms.

um. How exactly is Psychosis bringing someone back to reality? It did the exact opposite to me for almost a year.
