My headcanon for druids not wearing metal: Other spell casting classes use magic fire that is holy or arcane. Druids magic fire comes from nature, so it heats up their metal armour burning them.

I like to play a halfling druid named Halifax Tealeaf who's basically an appolthicarry, and who focuses mainly on poisons. He's a fun character.
