I'm not sure that infestation WOULD trigger spike growth damage... The text at the end does say that it doesn't trigger damage effects. Or am I mistaken? EDITED: Never mind... It specifically calls out opportunity attacks. Most DM's didn't like tracking all of the different poison conditions in earlier editions, so that's PROBABLY why they watered it down.

My Yaun-Ti is immune to poison damage and the Poison condition.

Oh, and poison damage is trash as so many things are resistant or immune.

Poison spray is pure F Tier. If playing as a Gish, you would use a weapon. If playing as a pure caster, I would, Misty Step or disengage and beat feet. Its range sucks. Damage is OK, but pure trash for a caster.

Poison is just a bad damage type, period. Unless (WoTC) makes poison and disease relevant as a damage type/debuff condition, then they’re all pretty worthless for dealing damage. The secondary conditions and riders make the spells. Fun combos: Cloudkill and grappled/restrained. Using zombies for this is probably the best use. Prismatic Wall and forced movement. That combo of Reverse Gravity and PW in a sphere works well though. Other than that, it’s mostly garbage. If you have an option to deal another damage type, do that instead.

Worse by comparison, sure. But I wouldn't call it a garbage damage type. There are more creatures without resistances or immunities to it than those with.

@@cavernsandcreatures I might have been a bit harsh, but it’s mostly regarded as the worst damage type to rely on. Besides non-magical weapon damage of course.
