There's a 1 in 3 change that the wizard loses the ability to cast wish if casted to do something other then replicate a 8 or lower leveled spell.

Na, wouldn't trigger. Alcohol is a poison so Wiz basically casted the minimum required level of restoration to remove the 'poison' and prevent him from being drunk.

Worse actually assuming the DM want to argue this is something beyond an 8th level spells capability. Because if you roll that 1 3rd. You just cannot cast wish at all the way it is writen... Including to replicate 8th or less level spells.

Lol, I had an experience with that. Had my players pick up a spy report that they were supposed to deliver, then move on. They wanted to read it. I didn't have anything written, it was just a MacGuffin they were supposed to carry (rookie mistake #1: giving the players a mystery and not expecting them to be curious). I gave them what I thought was a ludicrously high DC, basically intending to tell them "it's pretty much impossible to decode, please drop it". (Mistakes #2 and 3: never give a hard DC if you intend your players to fail, and making it hard just makes it more enticing). Anyway, so they skill-stacked the shit out of it and easily read the report. I just ad-libbed something, because, again, I didn't really have anything planned for what it said, I just wanted to give them a fetch quest while still having it affect the story. Anyway, yeah, I didn't DM that campaign very well. Hopefully next time I'll do better!

I mean I certainly wouldn't want to get drunk. That's why I don't drink. Best way to avoid a saving throw is to not do anything that would need one. On the plus side they just used up all the stuff they coulda used to avoid further issues that night. So go ham.

You don’t get drunk, then the tavern is put out of business for selling bad alcohol. They send assassins after your party and you have to constantly fight them off and make perception checks to detect traps and ambushes during long rests.

In all fairness, it makes sense for them to have been trained to do this :p Con saves are scary, and the only thing scarier is a wisdom save... or god forbid an intelligence save. But yeah, sometimes it's not poison: it's just... well, alcohol poisoning :p

See this? This is actually a great example of why i don't like 5e anymore. Because it's actually exactly like this for EVERYTHING and it just sucks the fun out of it. What is the point of playing a game of chance for no reason beyond fun, if you remove the chance? Played an archer once and went looking for giant centipedes for poison. Bard gave me like 3 extra dice to roll towards the success on animal handling. Why???

I don't think the problem is 5e. The other players want to help their teammates. Imagine that, wanting to play as a team, instead of a group of individuals. All you have to do is say you don't want the extra dice.

@@shorewall they spammed valuable mechanics for an already low dc, I passed it on the d20 alone. It is a problem with 5e because that's the only game that this always happens in. I wasn't exaggerating about this video being accurate. To be perfectly honest, it's actually a toxic mindset because it feels like the players in question HAVE to succeed at everything no matter how mundane it is.

@@jacobfreeman5444 except that it isn't a me problem or even a my group problem. Did you not watch the video? That's every 5e game that I have ever heard of. The only other popular system that even comes close to this is Pathfinder 1e, but it's less of a problem there because the buffs are less dramatic. And literally no currently popular system i can think of has this problem. It is literally a 5e problem.
