An excellent review providing exposure to the opportunity of customization. As the owner of watch references with the 6497 and 6498 movements, I have often contemplated the overemphasis on in-house movements and the cost-benefit analysis of in-house movements. The degree of craftsmanship exemplified by your Dornbluth 99.1 is in no way compromised by the use of a manufactured movement, even though Dornbluth offers in-house movements, albeit at a higher price point. The all around aesthetics of your Dornbluth are breathtaking, both fore and aft. I wish you many enjoyable years of ownership.

Thx Morten. I think you can't go wrong with a Dornbluth piece, whether off the shelf or custom. It is undervalued, still relatively unknown and a great bang for the buck. Enjoy it once you find the one you want!

Hey dude, seems you have been in Kalbe and visited the workshop by yourself (as i did twice). All the old machines working since some 50 years, no CNC, its like time travelling. My favorite was the little self made machine driven by the windscreen wiper motor of an old GDR car called Trabant or just Trabbi. And Dirk still is a master watch maker, not a salesman or CEO. BTW I am waiting for my second Dorni, a 99.1 Medium, highly customized in an old military stile with cathedral hands. Just dicovered your phantastic channel, same taste (love my to many GS and my JLC Master Perpetual 8 days). Keep on with your great work! Best greatings from Berlin, some 300 km from Kalbe.

Thanks so much Alexander. I would love to see your (new) 2nd Dorni. Sounds great. Here's a secret - I have another Dorni being built now - the Auf & Ab. Black dial, with some red highlights. I should get it in the fall. re: GS - why is it that you just can't stop buying them? haha I have 4 modern ones and a couple vintage pieces. Please spread the word on my channel. For some reason I don't seem to be getting much exposure. I think the Dornbluth review is one of my best. ;)

Arthur, after a year and a half wait I received my watch today. The Big Date, salom face with raised blue numerals, and blued hands. And yes ,it was worth the wait. Dieter also sent me two pics of him working on the watch. It doesn't get much better. Where can I send you some pics?

After much consideration and many vedios especially yours, I have made my order. On Dec. 7th,I purchased A Quintus 201.04 Gross Datum. A salmon face with raised blue numerals and hands. Blue strap. I contacted the Co. directly who where very helpful. Not found very much more at A.D's. The year will be worth the wait. Thanks for your help.

Gorgeous watch and great review. As you own a watch from both, if you would have to choose between a Dornblüth & Sohn or a Hentschel which would you pick? I’m debating between those two makers of stunning pieces.
@artl52
@artl52 2 жыл бұрын
Thx for watching my videos. I would clearly choose Dornbluth. They are a smaller manufacture, allow custom changes to a piece (dial color and type, hands, case) and I think are better made. Overall, a more special watch then Hentschel. The Hentschel piece I own has a very small crown which is difficult to grasp. And Hentschel is more hype-driven I think compared to Dornbluth. If you don't mind waiting 6-9 months for your watch, then Dornbluth for sure!

You made a good choice going with silver colour for the hands and indices! You said the movement metal has options - I thought it was only rose gold. Do you know, is German silver an option? Thanks!

Thanks a lot for this. I am close to getting the 38.5, and my only outstanding concern is how it will wear on my 6.25 wrist. You mentioned that it wears big so i am confused. It's a big shame not being able to see one before purchase

It is a goodie for sure. I admire the manuals and they are most of the reviews I watch. This one is a real jem. Decent design, gorgeous applied numerals. Truly fabulous colour - it is painful how few watches use red. But then I only have one automatic as I am obsessive with accuracy. My two beaters are a Grand Seiko Quartz - accurate to within 10 seconds a year, and a Casio Oceanus that synchronizes externally and can never be more than a second out. There is a comfort in knowing that when you look at your watch you know the time! Simple, not just an approximation of an automatic or a close approximation of a standard quartz.
@artl52
@artl52 2 жыл бұрын
I also have the Oceanus. I like it a lot and still wear it occasionally.
