_______________________________
In this clip, D.L. Hughley goes in on the existence of God and his personal reasons for believing in a higher power. He thinks the idea of forgiveness that is associated with the Black community has been warped primarily because of slavery and the connection between the generational conceptions of God and this "warped" forgiveness is apparent. To D.L., the concept of God could be intrinsic, but considering the history of America and how religion was used as a tool of oppression, it could be indoctrination as well. Hughley points out that you'll be hard pressed finding a Black atheist which could also be a byproduct of indoctrination. According to D.L. Hughley, the Black church is "the gayest place on the face of the earth. This is ironic considering the way most Christians condemn homosexuality, but Hughley believes the church contradicts itself because when "you got to Black churches, it's women, children, and gay dudes."

I am a 71-year-old African American and I don’t know another black non-believer. The sole purpose of religion is to control weak people. The one good thing that can come from forgiving someone is to not have to walk around with hate in your heart. Hate will kill you from the inside while never harming the person you hate. Forgiveness has nothing to do with religion, but it will free you from carrying negative baggage. Believe in yourself!!!

hesh2 this statement is baseless. If our oppressors were Muslim would you say the same thing? If they were Hindu, Buddhist etc.. It doesn't matter what the religion is or was its what they did. There are good people and bad people in all sects or groups. It's unfortunate but our oppressors were just hypocrites and they didn't follow biblical principles, at all. If they did there would not have been slavery.
@davidjoiner9496
@davidjoiner9496 6 жыл бұрын
Chuck Marshall My man, you need to do your research, the bible acknowledges slavery and "seems" to support it with verses like "slaves obey your masters Ephesians 5:6, 1Peter 2:18-20 "to obey and respect your masters, Exodus 2:20-21 talks about beating a slave and if he don't die that day then he is not to be punished but if he dies two days later than he is ok, because he is his property. That Bible is very flawed!!! Start reading and get out of your ignorance (not calling you ignorant).

David Robinson Many want to participate in the life of the church because of one truth...acceptance. When I first started going to church over 30 years ago there where young men who were strugglng with their sexuality. Over the years I have learned a thing or two. Here's one...Jesus allows the tares to grow alongside the wheat and He will eventually bring His sickle and separate the true from the false...!
@DRob_22

Will Thompson I know a Pastor RIGHT NOW; Been friends with him years before he came out to me. He loves men, but started seeing a woman so he could raise a family. I told him don't put innocent people's feelings at risk to hide sexuality. I haven't heard from him since I chastised him about it, but he went through with it. Now I feel a burden of staying silent. And the bad thing is, this person could read this right now and not know it's them. That's how prevalent homosexuality is in the church. I don't judge, but when you bring innocent people in, I tend to feel a certain way.

I absolutely agree. Last year my grandmother's church had a "secret" meeting with all the gay men in the choir. The church knew about it, but wanted to cover it up. The gay men were kicked out of the choir, but stayed in the church. Almost EVERY church I attended as a child had a VERY flamboyant choir director, and my grandmother's nephew was one of them.

"Forgiveness" = "What happens when people with genuine faith in God follow the spirit of scripture instead of simply the letter." I'm not a particularly religious fellow myself; my Mom tried to raise a good Catholic boy, but it didn't **quite** take. There's good in it, and I try to take those things away from the parts I could do without; but I'm not "God-fearing." Were I-- through some kooky confluence of events-- to find myself inside a church as I sometimes do every few years (usually around Christmas time if I'm hangin' with my parents) and some complete psychopath just strolled in and started busting caps willy-nilly, took off, and was later taken alive, I'd be e-mailing the state governor every other day asking in the most totally super-nice way possible if he'd let me throw the switch when the time comes for that bastard to do the "hot squat." But clearly, those that Dylan Roof attacked decided to try a different route. Most of the physical and emotional damage Dylan Roof inflicted can't be undone. If I had to guess, I'd say that the people who survived that feckless, mind-numbing act of brutality decided they could either carry around the pain he put into them until they die, or forgive him; by doing the latter, they're letting what he inflicted on them go, and putting themselves in a place (emotionally and spiritually) where he's powerless to harm them more than he has. I dunno if that's something **I** could do; but if they can, and doing so helps sustain them, then more power to 'em.

In slavery the church was the only place you could come together and have some relief , it was like the only social gathering available almost like a concert , you was not allowed in night clubs , theatres and etc. Thats why it became a big deal with the culture .
@marvinluster8757
@marvinluster8757 6 жыл бұрын
We just have to create an environment where we can gather peacefully without religious influences, we couldn't before due to the interventions of a frightened and corrupt government but I feel our time for that is now. Unfortunately we have made it a habit of competing with ourselves over who the "blackest" to the extent that we use hateful phrases from other communities to describe those who are our brethren but are "lost" to us. We should be cautious not to exclude ourselves from each other, at the cost of our cultural power.

I have gone through so much physical and emotionally pain, I know it's so hard, I know why there's doubt, and although I'm not the best example of faith, I still believe.... and as one of faith, I totally understand those that don't believe, and in the end, if I'm wrong, then I'll be okay with that, I lose nothing and if I'm right, not only will I definitely be okay, but I gain everything....

Over 100 billion people have transitioned from life to death and not a single one has returned (Except for the Jesus Claim). I’m late to the party, but let me say this. People who are consciously or even slightly subconsciously “spiritually awake” feel the weight and burden of unforgivness . One can only live in that bondage for so long. Consider, what’s the benefit of holding on to such hate and disdain for another person? People who choose to forgive know some place deep down in their being that this behavior is creating a self-induced burden mentally and physically. To hate and cast unforgivness toward someone, takes a huge toll on you. Some people hold on to stuff for years...and it shows. So if you love yourself, forgivness of others is one of the best decisions you could make in a show of self love.

Why is it our burden as black people to cheer up, make friends and forgive former and current racist white people? Why is this our burden to change their minds? What did we do to them in the first place? Why Couldn't they change their minds or beg for our forgiveness from the institution they started? So, many questions, yet no answers. Black people role is to not make former racist better. We didnt burn their church down, we didn't withhold basic human rights from them. We didn't enslaved their ancestors. We did not kill their leader and hang their families. We have no obligation to befriend a racist or change the minds of racist, who haven't ask from our forgiveness. We have done enough talking. Enough kneeling. Enough dying.

My dad told me years ago that I had to be my own man and that comes with both success and failures. I don't or ever was a follower but I look for those with basic commonalities. I saw DL. Over 20 yrs ago, didn't kno him but I never 4got a thought he left the audience after all the jokes with an analogy, basically saying there's options at times when you assume there's only one way, push or pull

It most certainly can but I get what he was trying to say. I think everyone falls victim subconsciously to programming whether it be societal or through a viral source no one is above being human. The problem is we often tend to exaggerate the small stuff out of fear and the values or beliefs that we have been taught. The biggest problem that I find is that we place so much focus on the content which is marginal at best and less focus on our actions within real life which are the bigger factors at play.

Go Getter Not when it comes down to preference. If every tv show on earth had a guy saying that whiskey tasted like pizza rolls, that still wouldn't make you taste pizza rolls when you drink whiskey. Watching Looney Tunes didn't make people want to murder others by dropping pianos on them. To imply otherwise would be to say that you could be genuinely attracted to a guy just because Will and Grace was popular.
