I used a Felpro head gasket on my D15 turbo and blew the head gasket around 7k miles. I think it’s less about the head gasket and more about clamping between the head and block. I used ARP head studs and boosted 8psi making 205whp. Unfortunately I also warped my block so now I’m looking to go NA B20 as I want to daily my car reliably.

On boosted it’s also “timing” that can do this

how much boost can these non vtec engines handle reliably?

much the same as a sohc vtec really no diff.., depends on the set up My friend has gone from 400 to 500whp on a well tuned stock sleeve D16 but with Wiseco Pistons and GT turbo and he didn’t go over 2bar boost So it really depends cuz even with the right parts if it isn’t assembled well or properly it won’t last long Now even if it’s good parts and assembled correctly.., a bad tune can turn the whole engine to a pile of junk

Thats why I run my distributor slightly retard to lower cylinder pressure, and I hate these metal head gasket
