Man, back in 2001 I was poor and had to grab one of these from a 90 si. I helped my older brother pulled it from the junk and installed it into my 89 civic sedan dx. This guy at my high-school had a 94 civic hatch with a 1.5 vtec. So the story goes, I raced him with my old 1.5 duel port injection and lost. I raced him again when I got the swap and gapped him by 2 to 3 cars in between. It felt so good. Just thinking about brings a smile to my face. Thank you so much for this video. ❤

In my past as a Honda O.G. years back ive owned 3 Z.C.s . 2 daul cam Z.C.s and one single cam . The Japanese imported single cam DESTROYED the 2 daul cams in every way in Power. Badass little engine.

How do you clean the water passages in the head and block?
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports Жыл бұрын
It’s just based on water so after machining and all, we clean with solvent and it’s good + lube the fresh bore after honing

This enginen is better than our local vti engine.. mine before, can overcome a 4G67 engine in a quatermile. Whether be the DSM is mounted on a galant or a evo3 based chassis..

Since I heard you mention bearings, have you though about doing an in-depth dive into bearings? Brands - ACL, King, Taiho/Daido, Glyco, etc. Like experience with each or observations from other engine builders and also the type of bearings bi-metal, tri-metal, race bearings and what to use on different applications. I've stumbled upon people on forums running race bearings on modest builds and some running standard Taiho/Daido bearings on high performance builds (not just Honda). Supposedly race bearings are tougher for higher performance engines, but are harsher to the crank so using them in a DD for longevity could have an opposite effect. Would be nice to shed some light on that topic and picking the ones that suit the needs.
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports Жыл бұрын
Only the stock D series were bimetal I believe but all daido/Taiho replacements are tri metal like ACL There’s too many variations and ALOT of times some would think if they go xxx bearings it performs better? It performs the same as how it was built even if it was the yyy brand Meaning the clearances are more important plus if they are worried about dirt in oil causing wear and if acl more wear on the crank I think before they worry about bearings they should worry more about oil? the b20vtec I did for ecu-later has been racing and street driven since 2017 until now it’s running and still far from needing a rebuild? 6yrs race/street use oem bearings Might as well include the “b20” has weaker sleeves? 😅
@SusedatLubo
@SusedatLubo Жыл бұрын
@@SRDmotorsports Just goes to show how good regular bearings are. I never knew Taiho/Daido to be tri-metal. I've seen king locally being advertised as bi-metal (for d15 blocks, d16 has more variety and race bearings). If Taiho are tri-metal I am seriously considering them for future rebuild (not to mention they are cheaper than king even). My guess is the bearings in my engine are still perfectly fine even at 240k kms on the dash, I am even willing to bet the speedo was rotated back when it was imported, cuz pretty much every car sales man does this scummy practice. I agree on the dirt. Making sure the clearances, oil flow, oil changes and crank surface are looked after is infinitely more important than going for X brand of bearings. If you are worried about dirt in your oil, clean your oil pan and change your oil frequently, simple.
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports Жыл бұрын
I’m not 100% on the Taiho and daido for sohc being tri metal but makes no sense for a mass production for oem to do a different line of metal combo for ONE platform? and my friends shop back when he was still alive has built 400 and 500whp turbo sohc ALL on daido bearings in 2008

I’m working on my own build, and after bing watching your porting videos, I went and did a half decent job. However I wanted to see a video showing off block prep (removing gasket material, honing, and general cleaning), but I didn’t find a video. Edit: grammar

Subbed i like the info you give. I have a 91 civic with dpfi zc block and head. The head has the opening for a mechanical fuel pump. Im thinking the previous onwers swapped all the good internals from zc engine. The engine runs rough so i need to do something. Im thinging about taking off the head and measure the block and head to see if its warp. I want a new head because of the hole on the back but im not sure which way to go. Im thinking 16a6 because its the closes to the stock d15b2 that was in hear and to match with the dpfi. And for smog purpuses to look stock. I have the 5 speed on it. Any thing you recommend?
@SRDmotorsports
@SRDmotorsports Жыл бұрын
That can work and that opening is for the mechanical fuel pump which is okay to plug if ur running efi But if it has a b7 style cam then its off a few degrees cuz the zc is like an a6 block
@levylovits
@levylovits Жыл бұрын
@@SRDmotorsports thats one thing idk if they changed cams for the stock b7 or they just swapped engine head and trans. Im thinking now they swap everything over but kept the zc cam for an a6 they had. Would the zc cam work on a stock dpfi ecu just timed differently? Would run rough and lobey at idle but normalish at high rpm.
@SRDmotorsports

Hard to find the pg6b here plus might as well go pm7 cuz esi got bigger chamber but by then will be pressed sa cam = never ending na hahaa Local Esi matic I’m not sure but the esi itself locally I sent one to Bisi? Way back and per him checking with webcam it was slightly bigger than their d16a6 it was identical to their JDM D16zc 😎 I guess we got lucky sa esi
