D213 WHISTLER with Mixed LIVERIED Stock! Plus GRAFFITIED Ex Riveira Mk2 at Crewe! 24/02/24

Great to see another LSL Intercity railtour up and running with D213 heading the 'Whistling Highlander' headed to Inverness. See the Class 40 leaving the depot in a cloud of clag, before reappearing after a switch back in Gresty Road sidings. The loco then heads out northbound from Crewe for a 2 days trip to the Highlands - It's a shame such a limited number of class 40's were saved, they really are great locos.
Next up is West Coast operated 1Z29 headed to Carlisle from Bristol Temple Meads with Ex Riviera Mk2 6042 which has been vandalised (likely whilst stabled at Burton-on-Trent). 47826 heads this working with 57314 dead in tow to Carnforth where the duff will be replaced by Tangmore and the class 57 on the rear started.

D213 Andania was the last loco that my Grandfather drove for BR, we have a photo taken of him in the cab on his last day before retirement, we are going to Crewe tomorrow to meet up with the loco and thanks to Locomotive Services we will be recreating the photograph.

Some interesting rolling stock formations. Nice to see a mostly blue & grey Mk 2 and a mostly InterCity Mk 3 formation. WCR ought to use D345 on the next Cumbrian Mountain express.

Agreed, nothing worse than seeing clouds of blue eye-watering smog coming out of the exhaust. Does the preservation movement no favors at all in these times of environmental awareness

Never been a great fan of the 40's. Power/weight and, to me at least, appearance says peakd take precedence over whistlers. That said, absolutely lovely to see that first generation type 4 looking so good.

A lot of the stock stabled at Burton Nemesis has been subject to graffiti over time.. Security looks to be an area that could be improved there.
