Hi Steve, I'm from South Korea and majoring in mechanical engineering. I finally reached this channel because Lotus Elise is my dream car. I'm gonna get this car someday, sincerely. So Thank you for your well-made video (I have already subscribed your channel )

Hi Steve, Excellent video, as always, I noticed you didn't mention that when you wind back the pistons, to watch out for brake fluid filling up the resevior and over flowing, this can be avioded by taking out fluid using a syringe.

Gonna change pads (and possibly rotors) on my Elise so really enjoying your videos! Thanks! Shouldn't we use thread locker when re-locking the caliper bolts?

Yes , we should ...good point

Hi Steve, At 13:50 could tell me the make of 1/2" ratchet that you use. I have seen you use it in your other videos and it seems to be of very good quality. Thanks,

Great video. I'll be doing mine soon with the EBC Red Stuff pads. I assume the torques are in the Elise Service Manual?
@D3Sshooter5 жыл бұрын
TXS and indeed it in the manual. but if in doubt I can look it up

@@D3Sshooter I'm doing the rears in a week. Could you tell me what the torque specs are please? Thank you
@AB-80X3 жыл бұрын
How did you like the Red Stuff pads? I'm going with Yellow Stuff as the Carbotech AX6 is no longer available for the rear.
@patrickvanrinsvelt44663 жыл бұрын
@@AB-80X Don't know yet as I am still painting the calipers. The Yellow stuff I had still have quite a bit of meat though I went fairly hard on the track. Lots of dust with the Yellow stuff. Main reason for going Red Stuff for the street.
@AB-80X3 жыл бұрын
@@patrickvanrinsvelt4466 I had considered Redstuff, but I really like how hard the Yellowstuff bites when cold.

D3S - I need to add some grease to the back of my rear brake pads. The Elise has 15k miles and the rotors looks fine but if applying brakes lightly the rear brakes squeek a little during low speed braking and after coming to a complete stop when taking off (so maybe first 5-10 feet after a complete stop I hear it for a second). I'm pretty sure the rear pads are a bit dry back there and lacking grease. Brakes do not appear like they are staying engaged after taking off and I do not see any undue wear. So I will be taking rear tires off tomorrow and take the pads off to see inner and outer pads and be sure they are not glazed or anything unusual. Few questions please: When you turn and compress the rear piston back in do you open the caliper's bleed valve as I have seen in another video to ease compressing the piston back in? Is there a torque value to the 17mm top bolt holding the caliper in place? Thank you.
@goretro77hobbies4 жыл бұрын
ok I dug and have an answer to one of my questions. Top 17mm Bolt for rear caliper is 45-50Nm(33-37 ft lbs) and bottom M8 caphead is 26-30Nm(19-22 ft lbs) according to Lotus.
@D3Sshooter4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comments, I think that you got the answer on the torque. As for turning in the brake piston that goes very smooth and no need to bleed ( turn it open)

D3Sshooter thanks! It worked great and turned very easy once I had it open enough . Always enjoy your videos I wish I can be an apprentice and learn from you. :)

Better if you use aluminum paste, or a metal free paste on aluminum parts. Great videos

Kristian Varhaug , txs for the comments

Indeed. Copper grease is pretty strong stuff. Better to use the modern high temp paste for the purpose.

The front calipers are made by AP Racing.
@D3Sshooter6 жыл бұрын
justaddafan , indeed by ap for lotus. At the back side of the front caliber it is marked as you state AP. I did not say that bevause i did not wanted to confuse the AP statement with the special race APs. Thanks for pointing it out

Did you use the same pads - compounds at the front and at the rear calipers ?
