It's remarkable that You were able to find as many parts through Cat as You did Jeff. A tip of the hat 🎩 to everyone that takes the time to help. Thanks for sharing all this and Best Wishes to You, Your Family and Friends. #110500

Usually if you need an obsolete Cat part they can provide specs and drawings so that you can potentially have it made.

Take the wife and the parts you need, go to Australia and see Kurtis at Cutting Edge Engineering. He'll make them and you and the wife and Griffy get a vacation !😂

I know what you mean about not wanting to take something apart because parts might not be available. At least it’s a CAT. There’s at least the possibility of NOS parts or possibly aftermarket. I’ve been working on a 67 yr old Continental R-602 6 cylinder natural gas engine. Almost impossible to find anything for it. Even the vendor supplied items like starter etc are long out of production.

Just a completely out of the box suggestion. Some of the advertising here on YT was for an oddball spring wound starter design previously unknown to me. As in, wind up the spring, then trigger the release. Cant remember the brand name. Mebbe exploring Google would come up with that as a plan B,would a Coffman style unit fit your engine, planC,mebbe a planD is out there ?

As the story goes ...cat needs to survive as well .big junck of its incomes comes from spare parts. good old days are gone for ever. Days that every component of the machine will last the lifetime of the machine are gone .as cat gets bigger and bigger, the overhead expensive gets bigger as well, and that is how it goes .it is not only caterpillar but every other equipment manufacturer out there..cat made their mark and reputation a long time ago and they capitalise on that ...
