Thanks for explaining about the dirt. It's amazing how much dirt is removed during cleaning.

Yes, Good info about the dirt. Too bad they can't find a better way to recycle that dirt.
@robertjensen51272 ай бұрын
The process to further recycle it is cost prohibitive at the time. Most of what he is pushing comes from washing the spuds so it stays wet for quite a long time.@@stephenhamilton1113

They do ‘recycle’ the dirt but not in the time you normally think of years not weeks

It’s a pleasure to watch you operate the D9. Smooth and calculated. No wasted movements. Everything thought about and planned out ahead of time. Super efficient and gentle on the machine, just the way it should be. Nice work as always. 👍🏼

Great to see the D9 rockin' n' rollin'. Man, that's like trying to cut through dough. It's almost elastic! Nice clean job you're leaving, Jeff. Love those early starts.

many years ago a friend worked at a potato chip manufacturing place and while I don't remember how many semi loads of potatoes a day they received they would always get a couple or so 5 gallon buckets of rocks that the separating machine did not kick out before they were shipped. The rocks would be shaped just like a potato. After all the many years of that one would think they might run out of rocks in the soil where the potatoes are being grown.

😝😝OOOZZING at 17 min CREEPY..... Thanks for the explanation on their reusing the dirt. AS ALWAYS Jeff, love you videos, that 9 engine hum almost could be used for sleeping noise! Do they give "TOURS" in that processing center there? Must be a lot of chemicals in that potato waste that they can't use it somehow for cattle feed??? I remember back in the 50's they let the cattle into the potato sheds to eat potatoes and still fed grass sileage with a topping of barley grain in Oregon. These cattle were in feedlots for the winter, then turned out to pastures in springtime. Klamath Falls, Fort Klamath area. area THANKS AGAIN JEFF FOR BRINGING US ALONG!!! 😍😍😍😍😍🙏🏻🙏🏻 Loosing the curls took years with them!!!!!!🤪🤪😄😄

@19:50 you mention reselling dirt as top soil. In West central Minnesota sugar beet farmers Tare dirt is accumulated from offloading process and is collected from sugar beet piling stations from each load unloaded and hauled to specific fields for removal. This includes weed seeds, rotten sugar beets, and makes greasy weed infested topsoil once dump truck loads leveled with Dozer. Nobody wants it so a premium is paid to dispose of Tare dirt. If you go 3 hours north west by Fargo North Dakota all dirt accumulated from offloading each individual load is loaded onto farmers haul truck to be returned to original field eliminating weed seed spreading, disease spreading & removing cost to CO-OP to haul Tare dirt and dispose of it.

My cousin in Nor. Cal. caught some guys hunting on his land. Told them to leave and do not come back. A few days later he found their pickup parked back on his land only this time they had parked it in heavy - deep brush. Being the workaholic that he is, he went to work clearing brush on that plot of land with his trusty Ol' 14A. He told me one day; "I never saw that pickup in there and neither did the trespassers when they came back to the area where they thought they had parked it!" 😉🤠

Thanks for the information about topsoil use. Reckon I won't import any for my garden. We don't need nematodes. On another note, I am always amazed at how quiet the D9 is. Caterpillar dozer exhaust is traditionally very loud. The muffler on the Killdozer must be very excellent. All We hear on the video is the sound of the fan and the turbo. I'm sure it's still pretty loud decibel-wise in person, but it doesn't seem to have the ear splitting racket usually associated with Cats. It must make things a lot better for the operator.

The clean dirt is fine, all soils have nematodes and not all are bad, it's the dirt with raw potatoes that can have disease

Use your excavator, scatter buckets through the other dirt. Dozer blade full to 2 excavator buckets or some sort of mix. That is obviously trying to compost, it is just too concentrated and needs some oxygen to process.

I am not an operator so my question might be considered stupid. Considering the problems of getting bogged down in the wet dirt would a smaller, lighter machine, maybe a D6, work better? Might take longer but without spending time getting unstuck it might actually be just as quick.
@Jpaydirt2 ай бұрын
Maybe, I don't know. I would have to buy a specialty machine just for this and then what would I do with it, Hmmm I have a D7 but it's not running yet
@danmartin95582 ай бұрын
I can see how well the u blade works and the wide tracks are doing probably make dozer feel completely different. I struggle grading I was told it is all in the angle/tilt of back of machine?
@jeremynunes53312 ай бұрын
Just curious, have ever considered buying a d8n? They're not computerized and would be easier to move around. Also, you have a newer generation excavator, did ever consider a 235, again not computerized and seems it would be easier for you to work on with your wealth of experience on cat equipment. Just some thoughts
@Jpaydirt2 ай бұрын
D8N isn't big enough to push scrapers, plus it's still a bushing eater with only three cogs engaged, 235 is to old, we got the 336e because it was affordable at the time, not now though LOL
@russellsmith38252 ай бұрын
Would it do any good to lay perforated drain pipe in the bottom of these mud pits? Both to drain water and also allow oxygen into the profile so they can actually compost instead of becoming an anaerobic soup

Use your excavator, scatter buckets through the other dirt. Dozer blade full to 2 excavator buckets or some sort of mix. That is obviously trying to compost, it is just too concentrated and needs some oxygen to process. Once you get all the holes worked out you can come in with a scraper and "aerate" it every year moving it further down the rows and sell the new enriched topsoil to at least pay the diesel bill. A dozer, scraper and excavator parked there instead of your yard might just be what the doctor ordered to free up work space? A proper compost cycle gets hot enough to cook worms.
