Running rich at high rpm? Leaking Fuel Injector FOUND! High Long Term Fuel Trims

I was running rich at high RPM and it ended with leaking fuel injector found. If you have negative high long term fuel trims that worsen with RPM fuel injector leakage is a possible cause. Without any testing injector leaks, a simple cylinder inspection in a GDI car may be all you need!

Ever had leaking fuel injectors? How did you find out?

My old Honda Accord used to have high long-term fuel trim numbers as well. I bet if I had checked the injectors, they would've shown the same thing.

Everytime I hear you say "Now, let's get this!" I feel excited to find out what you learn on each video. Thank you for your thorough record of each experiment. I learn a lot! A couple questions: 1) How often do you change your engine air filter? 2) How often do you clean your MAP and MAF sensors?

Thanks mate! On air filter, I'd say once or twice a year with some blow out cleaning in between. I drive about 12k miles a year in dusty environments. MAF/MAP are once a year. Overkill, but since there's no maintenance minder for those, I just do it as part of an annual tune up. Same for cleaning my throttle body.

That #4 looked to have some staining from leaking as well. The stains looked to be more on the black portion of the cylinder wall. Great video, be interesting to see the end result of your fix.

Good catch. I noted the staining, but omitted it since I didn't see actual wetness. Yea. Looking forward to pulling the injectors. Not the easiest of jobs as the intake manifold has to come off, and it's towards the firewall 😑

@DIYAutoworksNG yeah if you notice the dark colored material or lack of also shows signs. On the first two you can see that darkness has been washed back into c shape by the leaking gas. Very interesting content

Hi good video. did you have problems with a leaking injector before or after using Fuel System Additives as in your other video ? Is it possible the fuel additives caused the problem ? Or would that not be possible from just adding a additive ?

I have C250 with High LTFT %26 and STFT 18%, STFT increasing with high RPM and LTFT degrees with High RPM but not gose less than %18 whatever RPM, Example, LTFT %26 and Change to 18% once touch accelerate paddle and stuck at %18 even if 6000 RPM, I made smoke test but no leak at all Replaced Valve cover including low pressure fuel pump with filter Also changed intake gasket but still same symptoms, Last thing replaced Bank1 sensor 1 O2 sensor, You think bank1 sensor 2 O2 sensor causing high fuel term or something else ?

I feel you. Fuel trims can be one of the hardest things to chase down. You're on the right track. You should have codes I would imagine? Check and clean your MAF, also check the PCV valve and it's hose. Be sure the PCV isn't stuck open or the hose leaking vacuum. If you do all these and nothing works, it may also be dirty injectors. In that case, get a good fuel system cleaner and and see what happens.

@DIYAutoworksNG thank you for your reply, you completely right I have P0068 related to Map sensor, I replaced Map sensor with OEM one including test Map sensor wire voltage and All good, I thought onec fix Fuel terms Map sensor code will disappear because the car run very well with No rough idle, I ordered fuel injector cleaner and see if something well change, again thank you and appreciate as sharing your experience
