Italian Football were good at that time. I heard that in UEFA Cup/Europa League between 1989 and 1999, there were at least 1 Italian clubs making all the way to the Final, with 1996 being notable exceptions (the Final was between Bayern Munich and Bordeaux). 4 of them were an all-Italian affairs.
