Very good message.Jesus Christ wants us to lead a saintly life and our aim is to be a Saint. We must help the needy by working and earning.In the new testament nowhere it is said that we have to give Tenth. But it says that we have to give our maximum for charity, like giving money for medicine ,education fees for the poor people etc.Gospel learning to praise God, an teaching about God's Grace and Mercy etc to those who are not aware of Jesus Christ. Working free without much reward for uplifting the poor people, and should not work against the teaching of God and live only a modest life without spending lavishly for worldly pleasures. Saba or Church is the body of Christ and we should give for the day to day living of the people working in the Saba or Church. But there should not be laxuary in Churches or in Saba. My understanding from the bible I am humbly sharing below as briefly as possible. 1. First mention of tithe is in Genisis where Abram gives one tenth of all the loot to Melchizedek bring a high priest. This was probably a paganistic practice of those times which Abram followed. 2. Next time one tenth is offered by Jacob when he was on the run to God when God had offered to be with him wherever he went and care for him. Jacob on his own told God that IF God was with him and cared for him he would give one tenth to God. God did not say a word to Jacob then. However much later when the Israelites were in desert led by Moses after being brought out of slavery from Egypt. The Israelites totally misbehaved and kept complaining it then the situation developed resulting in God binding the Israelites with 10 Commandments and various laws to govern the them in mist aspects of life. As part of that God used what their forefather Jacob had put forward to God was put into place them as tithe. So the tithe as a law was ONLY applicable to the Israelites. 3. In the New Testament times for Christians, the old law of giving tithe is NOT applicable. We are to be liberal to share with the needy what God has given us in his grace. Here after what brother Valson Thampu is sharing is correct. Regards.
