I really appreciated you getting into pad stalling and how little of an issue that it is, too many times i see reviewers rail against polishers that stall when even rupes has said that stalling happens by design. Interesting on microfiber being damaging to paint, i used the meguiars MF pads for a long time before finding the rupes blue wool pads that i regularly use now. Ive really enjoyed using your waffle pads as ive learned the rotary.

Great podcast Yvan! I really appreciate the quality information you give us via these podcasts. The very first car polishing video I ever saw was with a guy using compressed air to clean a foam pad, without any knowledge on polishing I instantly thought about how the compressed air must be affecting the cells of the foam, separating them from the pressure. I like the ideas are sound logic behind your way of thinking and I appreciate you preaching wisdom and efficiency alongside support to your views and the community as a whole.

Great video Yvan. Really appreciate your view on working with the tools. As an old guy myself I got started with the Rotary. We did it all with that one tool. The Da is a great tool added to it especially with all the options on throw. Absolutly agree with not using air or a pressurewasher to clean pads. absolutly love my pad washer. Yvan, I enjoy your teachings so much!!! Im an angineer too and listening to you is enlightening. Learn so much with your videos, you got to bemy favorite person to watch. Two things I would like to ask that I dont feel were covered in this lecture: 1) For a killer 1 step on a well maintained paint, keeping in mind paint preservation, wanting to enhance the paint every 3 years on a car that I plan to keep for a long time is it better to use Rotary w/ red pad or 25mm DA w/ gold or red pad or something smaller like a 15mm DA w/ red or gold pad? (So minimize cut & optimize gloss) 2) is there a way to minimize micro marrying? Is it technique, machine speed, arm speed, pad choice, machine stroke?
@diydetailofficial8 күн бұрын
Thank you. The rotary and red pad will give you maximum gloss with minimal cut. The longer the stroke and the slower the tool occultation, the less micro marring. Also waffle pads do not cause micro marring as much as flat pads.
@gorillanismo8 күн бұрын
@diydetailofficial makes perfect sense to reduce the speed, I know youve said the red pad is designed for rotary but the red pad and speed 3 on your 25 DA would it be a good balance to remove some swirls and have a great finish???

@diydetailofficial7 күн бұрын
The less you polish the better it is for your paint.
@InfiniteDetailing10110 күн бұрын
It depends on your style of polishing. I tip and rip with rotary. Then DA to finish. Yes rotary does do glossier finishing, I will agree. DA will cut faster if you’re the type to let the polisher do the work when you polish with minimal pressure, whether a DA or Rotary. Commenting for engagement. Regardless, good content.
@ccalero454611 күн бұрын
I must say that the rotary finish just hits differently. I have tried the entire DIY polishing system and the efficiency alone converted me. The only gap I see is a little more cut (like a TLC+ version of GS) for trashed hard German paint. That is for the missing 5% as GS covers 95% of cases with proper technique tuning.

What are the optimum speeds for both rotary and the da? Can the yellow diy pad be used on the rotary instead of the red pad or will the rotary be more prone to marring then the da with the yellow pad?

Rotary 600 RPM, da 2-3000 OPM. The yellow pad takes more skill to finish with a rotary.

Thanks for sharing Yvan. Is it best to dampen the pad with rinseless or could you use water? The same for wool pads, dampen them too? I have ONR, Feynlab PR, McKees and your own DIY rinseless, have yet to try McKees and DIY rinseless for anything. I find Feynlab PR very good for wiping off polish on softer paints (a tip I picked up from Obsidian Detailing)
