I very recently became aware of Barbucci’s work coming across a Dutch KZbin channel that reviews comics and Ekhö Mirror World was featured. I loved the visuals so much, I picked up the first two volumes of the series. I draw comics and illustrations, more in a stylized cartoon style, and being from Quebec, I was heavily influenced by Franco-Belgian comics (bédés) like Tintin, the Smurfs and Asterix. A lot of that childhood influence seeped into my style (along with Mad Magazine from the 80s). Barbucci is very much in the European tradition but is really a cut above the rest with a perfect blend of draftsmanship, anatomical gesture and simplicity. He is amazing.

Love Barbucci! His work on W.I.T.C.H. is still my favorite to this day. Unfortunately when Disney adapted the comic into an animated series they completely changed the art style and butchered the way his characters originally looked.

I think his style is kinda a mix of Manga and western style simple and detailed.

He’s one of my biggest inspirations, especially his work on W.I.T.C.H., which is one of my favorite series (if you couldn’t tell 🤣)

Have you ever tried his character art class? I’m thinking of buying it. I bought one of his 8 tapes class and I’m enjoying so far. But do you think his class is worth buying?

I wasn't aware he HAD classes. I can't really make a judgment. Sounds to me like his classes are beneficial to you. If you find his teaching style helpful and you can afford it, why not?
