I never thought anyone would sing this to be even close to Simon and Garfunkel’s perfection. Man was I wrong, this version is one of the few remakes that is even better than the original. The choices he makes by staying low and holding in the rock tones until the end and then once again going back to the low and slow. Just absolute perfection and the control he has in his voice to pull this off not just in this music video but in his live performances of this song also. I get the chills every time.

I loved what John Green said, This song and the way David Draiman delivers the meaning of this song is absolutely amazing. If anyone listens, truly listens to this song and doesn't feel anything or have a reaction, then they didn't hear the words. I am a 60-year-old woman growing up in the Classic Rock & Roll from Rolling Stones, Led Zeplin to Lyrnrd Skynrd, etc. etc.... Besides that our dad had us listen to songs from Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra then to Creedence Clear Water to Ike & Tina Turner. My father would stack a bunch of albums on our hi-fi as we'd all go to bed and we'd all sleep with our doors open so we can hear it as it would put us to sleep, the memory of that is awesome as a child growing up to love, love music. But music to me is a form of communicating and listening and feeling and David has a way of singing this to the point that you do listen and learn and feel on his delivery of this song. Written by Paul Simon in 1963 & 64 I've heard it, grew up with it, but never did I FEEL it, like I do with David in Disturbed. It sends a strong message even back in the early 60's and now almost 5 decades later we are still as a world, not communicating, not listening, not feeling, not learning and with this modern day of electronics such as cell phones texting, messaging has really made us not listening, not communicating, not doing the face to face conversations, feeling, touching listening seeing someone's eyes as they express themselves, it's taken away our humanness. So for me, that is why I feel this song reaches us to a point where most of the reactions on youtube can't describe in words how it makes them feel.

You are exactly correct with everything you said. I also grew up in the 60's and have a love of music. I have only heard one other son that actually moved me as it was sung and that was Daddy's hands. Great singers are great story tellers and that is what music is not noise or mellow melodies but stories being told. I agree that people just don't listen it is everyone is more important than anyone else and they don't have time. But to truly enjoy a song you have to listen to the story and David told this story in excellent form. From soft and angelic to powerful and moving.

I've seen a lot of reaction videos where the watchers were *allegedly* hearing this version for the first time, had NOT heard the original and didn't even understand what the lyrics were about and yet, they were still reduced to tears by the third verse. David was just that good at emoting through the vocals. The background instrumentation was also perfect in setting the mood.

Chris I see your aspect on it and yea I can see where the divergence from the original is a little cringe worthy. But knowing that Paul Simon stated that the disturbed cover is better than theirs is a bit of a example of how much it has affected the world. But again I do see your point. It's almost too short isn't it? YES! David Draiman of Disturbed is a classically trained musician. He has one of the most versatile voices in the music industry. I love everything they release which is rare for me. I love music. Particularly lyrics as I am a writer. The sheer honesty and the bridge between the old world of the original (which I grew up with by Simon and Garfunkel) and the new world of today has been totally tied. It forms cohesion which makes this like, 10 times better. I hear it, I get MASSIVE shivers. Something about his voice does it to me every time. Great reaction.

The observation of it being too short is very perceptive... I had the same reaction. I tear up every single time I hear this, it's a visceral response that is uncontrollable. I loved the way you guys were focusing on the song and letting us SEE the REACTION on your faces because that is why I like to watch reaction videos, to get an honest heartfelt response to the songs that I think are great and then getting a verbal response when the song is over. Reaction videos where the reactors keep pausing to make comments about it or to ask questions about it is really irritating to me, why pause to ask what the song is about? Your supposed to LISTEN to the song and focus on the lyrics while we are seeing the reactions on your face. So thank you for listening to the song and focusing on the lyrics and reacting verbally when you have heard the whole song I really appreciate it and I am going to subscribe

David was trained at the WORLD FAMOUS Juilliard school of performing arts. He was actually trained in opera. I also grew up in the 60’s and 70’s, and heard this song thousands of times. The way David delivers this song is so powerful. If you don’t feel anything from this, you don’t have a pulse. There are many people, even from my generation that don’t know what the song is about. It was about the Vietnam war. The neon light was the atomic bomb. It was Simon and Garfunkel ‘s protest song about this war. Back then America was sick and tired of all lives being lost in a war that we shouldn’t have been in. The 60’s were a time of zeppelin, the Stones, The Who, etc. But is also was a time of folk singing, Simon and Garfunkel were folk singers, probably 1 of the best. To redo an American classic is risky at best. David took this song and sang, ran, and stomped it. I love this version even better than Simon and Garfunkel’s. He has one h**l of a voice!

I love the original, and I love this cover. I think Simon was talking about the bad side of television, in his time, and Draiman is talking about the downside of Teh Intarnets now - about technology's ability to *prevent us* from actually connecting to each other, instead of letting us *make* connections to people we might otherwise never make. It doesn't have to be that way - but that's the easy path, to just talk past each other rather than listening to each other. Such strong imagery in this video... Also, a quick note, and thinking about the *good * side of the 'net - as a Dad myself I lovelovelove seeing how parents and their kids are making KZbin just another way of sharing each other's lives. So cool hearing from you both, and watching you talk and actually listen to each other :) A+ parenting, A+ daughter-ing, A+ family-ing - blessings on you both :) Thanks for sharing with us!

I love Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel's original 1964 and 1966 versions, Nouella's version, as well as Disturbed's version of this song. The words in this song touches my soul like very few songs have done. I feel that Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel were trying to warn us about what will happen in the future with this song and Disturbed's version is telling us that it has come to pass because we did not listen to what the original version was telling us.

When Simon and Garfunkle recorded this it was like a whispered warning. When Disturbed recorded it, it was the rage of the warning not being heeded. The words were prophetic when it was written. Paul Simon once said he had a dream in which he saw the 10,000 people talking without speaking, hearing without listening, writing songs without sharing. He said this was the basis for this song. He said in another interview, that this was all about the television entering into the family living room. If we look now, we can certainly see how this applies now: People talking without speaking - texting People hearing without listening - the Internet Writing songs without sharing - our separation from humanity through technology. Paul dreamt the future so many years ago. We are so focused on our technology that we have lost touch with each other.

You might not know this but David was classily trained. You should hear their Evolution album. The song "Reason to Fight" is so assume. The whole album has a message on Depression and Drug Addiction. A must to listen to.

IMO, Madison Square Garden, 2009, was the best Simon/Garfunkel version. It was a lament, poetry, and a cautionary tale. The Disturbed version is a roar of anger at a societal condition. David Draiman worked a miracle with the song.

Would like to suggest Versailles - Destiny the lovers. This song is not one of there really top level songs but it's a song that really shows there style. And I think that is a better introduction to a band then to start of with the masterpieces of a band.

davids last name is pronounced dray-man. I don't know what other people think, but in my opinion after they let fuzz go and brought in john they got a bass player that was 100 times what they had. don't get me wrong, fuzz is no slouch, but john puts so much more into the music.
