David sent a copy to Paul Simon prior to releasing the song, to get his opinion. Paul Simon absolutely loved it. Paul Simon posted a link to the video on his website. The only one he ever added. The original version was a warning, and this version is the reaction to us not heeding it. I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s with the original version. I could listen to this version on an endless loop.

Not exactly how it went down. After Paul saw the performance, he emailed David Draiman. Simon wrote, "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I'd seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks.". Paul also posted a link to the performance on his social media, which he'd never done before. They had some further exchanges, but that was as far as it went. People claim Simon said the song was Disturbed's now, they own it, etc. Never happened.

What makes this arguably more impressive is that his vocal chords were in some distress during this performance. His left vocal chord had a lesion on it (he talks about it during his interview with TheCharasmaticVoice) and was on a bunch of anti-inflammatory drugs during the performance. I've had the pleasure of seeing them live a handful of times and they're INCREDIBLE each time. Love the Disturbed streak you're on!

He also had a fever over 100 when he performed this song. That's why he was seated.

And he had to use auto tune on the difficult sections even though he didn’t want to…. Version with Myles Kennedy with disturbed is easily better.

You’re right- all of these awesome artists have put in major work behind closed doors, to be able to go onstage and sing songs like this. The time they’ve spent in training is more than we’ll ever know. Great point.

The amazing thing I found is that he sounds so much better live than on record. There is a concert on KZbin, I believe on their channel, is awesome and literally sounds like the recordings but better in my opinion

I love the origional. But i love this one more just because it sounds more powerful. I love a powerful sound and that is what this version has. The origional is also great but its more errie is how i would describe it. Both great version and a great song. Also a great reaction to it Charis. Thank you for doing it. It should also be noted that David is a classically trained singer and is one of the reasons he did so well with this song.

If you don’t pause while watching it’s way more likely for the video to be blocked. Also it’s a reaction. We react as we watch not a “watch in silence like a robot” video.

Not sure why ppl recommend this live version…. It’s not the best, and David had to reluctantly use auto tune for a small portion due to being sick….. the most impressive live version is easily the version featuring Myles Kennedy live…. Those two kill it together live and it’s far superior.

I got Disturbed's album Believe when it came out, it was the source of my favorite song Remember (heres the official music video kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZLTpY2diamKe8k) I hope you get a chance to listen its my jiggity-jam and really gives David some rock moments to let his voice soar. its funny to me that I totally biffed on staying current with the band somewhere around Indestructible and missed the entirety of the sound of silence THING, now I get to enjoy one of my old favorite voices be an absolute ROCK GOD on national tv and the entire reaction community gets to experience my main man Dave slaaayyyy on the mic. Its incredible how much more you can appreciate a song with every new set of ears that hears it. One of my favorite reaction quotes is "like y'all got ears. that was beautiful" XD. Im happy you get to dive into one of my favorite bands and I look forward to you getting to the first two albums. I got to see them play a small like 2ft stage for like 200 people and still have a drumstick i caught at the show, its an incredible memory hearing him so close and sounding so well balanced right out of his mouth like the microphone was barely doing any work. Even as a teen I was amazed that we werent in the bigger stage in the same building, it was crazy, the stage was too small for his presence. being close up was almost uncomfortable but hearing him directly was an experience unlike anything. I also remember the security guard was the size of the amp stack, insane. anyhoo Remember kicks butt give it a listen kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZLTpY2diamKe8k
