If you haven't already, listen to their two preceding albums. I was obsessed with this band for years and haven't found another band that quite scratches the same itch as early Arctic Monkeys did for me. However, there have been some that have gotten close. Namely Cage the Elephant and the Strokes. Like others have mentioned, Queens of the Stone Age albums Like Clockwork and Songs for the Deaf are probably the most similar to this particular album. The frontman for that band produced this very album and they are great. Just saw them Live a couple months back actually which was epic. Hope that helps!

It’s hard to overemphasise how massive arctic monkeys were in the UK in the large 00s/early 10s, they were basically the soundtrack to my teenage years! If your dad thinks that this one's (positively) heavy, then you just _gotta_ finish it up with _Suck It and See_ soon. That's the heaviest they've ever been. Hard fucking rock. And then the other half is just some of the loveliest, sweetest, saddest and most heart-wrenchingly romantic stuff you've ever heard. Shoegaze-y. Borderline dream pop. Such a great mosaic of an album. The distilled essence of Arctic Monkeys, in a way. Like, if you mashed all of their albums together, _Suck it and See_ is probably what would come out.

Rest in Peace to your father and grandfather ❤️❤️ Humbug and AM are my favorite Arctic Monkeys album, I think Humbug is so underrated. This is one of the only albums that I love the whole way through. I love the heavy desert rock feel. I was so happy that they played some of these songs at the concert I went to in September. I SCREAMED when they played Pretty Visitors, I was hoping they would and my dreams came true! They played a decent amount of Humbug at their Boston show, it was literally the most magical night of my life. I left feeling the most euphoric I’ve ever felt in my life. Their set was absolutely orgasmic, it melted my brain. My favorite Arctic Monkeys song of all time is The Jeweller’s Hands, with R U Mine, Do I Wanna Know, and Secret Door very close behind them. So to clarify what My Propellers about, Alex said in an interview that’s it’s about a descent. It has nothing to do with any organs 😂. Essentially, it’s about getting back on track after being in a deep depression by the help of someone else or drugs. Hope this helps!

Brilliant album. I've been waiting for you to do a video on this one. It's great seeing other people's reactions to an album I rate so highly myself. Looks like you both enjoyed this one.

That organized chaos is totally from Josh Homme, the producer, who developed that sound playing in QOTSA. It’s very very similar to the Hungarian scales developed by the Romani (gypsy) people. It utilizes tritones and other things heard more commonly in the Middle East and Asia which give it that “uncomfortable” sound our Western ears aren’t used to. It has a dissonance that was eventually labeled “The Devil’s Chord” being seen as dark and evil by Europeans whom oppressed the Romani people. The sound sneaked its way into popular music with legends like Django Reinhardt and Cab Calloway which then went to Jimi Hendrix, Dick Dale, Black Sabbath, etc. It’s been used by so many artists but Josh Homme just utilizes it in such a way that really makes him the king of “Desert Stoner Rock”.

I noticed the timbre of the guitars are also similar to the scores of old western movies too which attribute to that dry desert sound.
