@@Yaozaaaaait’s a poem about Kendrick’s life. The poem in mortal man ‘The caterpillar’ as well as the lyrics reflect that. Kendrick is the caterpillar, Compton is the cocoon and the gang violence and social injustice are attempting to pimp him out for life on the streets. The original name was supposed to be ‘To Pimp a Caterpillar’ a play on Tupac (Tu-P-A-C) but Kendrick changed it to show the brightness of life as butterfly just sounds better when compared to the word pimp. It’s all a poetic interpretation of not just Kendrick, but anyone’s life growing up in these areas and how the world will try to influence them in certain ways.

Kendrick’s story telling is top tier. At the end of No Make Up he says “to be continued 11”. On the original track list for Section 80 Keisha’s Song is track 11 but it’s been bumped up to track 10. The original track 10 on Section 80 is The Spiteful Chant but it’s been removed from the album for some reason. Fast forward to GKMC the second verse on Sing About Me goes back to Keisha’s Song because it’s being told from Keisha’s sister’s point of view. Also the first verse on Sing About me is about his best friend being killed. That leads up to These Walls on TPAB which is about Kendrick sleeping with the girlfriend of the guy that killed his best friend. 4 different songs all connected on 3 different albums just shows the brilliance of Kdot

Being 16 and walking home after practice from high school, playing GKMC, Sec. 80, and OD on headphones that I would have to wrap around my phone to actually make the headphones work is a time that I will always cherish. Those 10 to 15 minutes walks were the best time to decompress from the whole day and really take in the moment. Kendrick was and is still the goat for me. He got me out of a lot of tough times and I can say he honestly saved me. This era of Kendrick even all the way up to Damn brings me back to those moments in time, whether it’s time spent with friends, shutting the world out, being around family, even certain smells. It all comes back. I hope everyone who reads this has a blessed day, week, month, however many years and an artist that they can turn to, to make their day better. Last thing, y’all should really check out the hidden gem Cloud 10 by Kendrick.

Keisha’s Song was my introduction to Kendrick, and I was in love from that moment forward. The song was his take on 2Pac- Brenda’s Got A Baby, which he references in Keisha’s Song. Kendrick has mentioned that he felt like Pac’s “offspring” in rap, so this song only made sense for him to make. This thought led to him adding Pac to TPAB and even almost calling the album TuPAC (To Pimp A Caterpillar). ALSO, in Keisha’s Song, when he mentions sitting his sister down and pressing play to listen to what he wrote, that was his way of warning her of the dangers of this world. Fast forward to “U” on TPAB, Kendrick is blaming himself for preaching to the world while his little sister still fell victim to teenage pregnancy. The character Keisha within the track was a real person, and the story was something he heard about in this hometown. Kendrick later referenced this story again in “Sing About Me.” Keisha’s sister was also a prostitute, and that’s why Kendrick wrote from the sister’s perspective about being upset that he would put her story out to the world. He’s a literal genius! Section.80 is one of my favs because everything he created after it was just an extension of what was introduced on that album.

Before this record, I had only heard P&P 1.5 by Kendrick, (I came across it randomly on iTunes and bought it for like 0.99 cents lol). I really liked P&P 1.5, but I didn’t dig into any other songs or projects by Kendrick until Section.80 came out. I listened to it and had never heard ANYTHING like it. From the way Kendrick Lamar flows, songwrites, and delivers his lyrics, to the production, and the overall concept of the album I was BLOWN away! It gave me a whole new perspective on music and how powerful of a tool it can be to deliver a message while being sonically pleasing. This is when Kendrick Lamar became my favorite artist. I’ll never forget that experience of first listening to this album.

Apparently she ran into him after he dropped section 80 and was shouting at him how he dare to make a song about her sister and quote on quote embarrass her in front of the world. Obviously this girl was also deeply influenced by her bad environment just like her killed sister. And her shouting at him was the inspiration for sing about me. Go back and listen to "Keisha's song" and then "sing about me" and you'll get the full picture. Flawlessly executed Kendrick 🔥🔥🔥

Phenomenal video and awesome reactions from the both of you! I totally agree about Keisha’s Song (Her Pain) being one of his best tracks. I really really would love for you guys to do an Ab-Soul album, Control System is one of my favorite albums ever.

Should show your dad His Pain. It’s kendrick and BJ the Chicago Kid again and honestly it’s one of kendrick’s best tracks.

What’s crazy bruh is that I actually think this is one of Kendrick’s WORST and yet it’s still 9/10. The quality of his discography is insane.

One of my two favorite rap albums of all time and my favorite Kendrick album. Watching someone’s first reaction to Keisha’s Song was cool. My fav Kendrick song of all time.

Can't believe this came out at the end of my freshman year in high school. So glad to have experienced it at that time
