The snap crackle pop is in the Quincy jones sample Summer in the city. It would simply be that way because the actual vinyl record J Swift owned was old, probably an original pressing from 1973. Notice fatlips verse, the sample is filtered (all the high pitch frequency is compressed into the low so you don't hear the crackling, then halfway through its unfiltered and you hear the organ and the crackling again. One of my favourite songs of any genre. Glad you enjoyed it.
@PacificCoastHustle
@PacificCoastHustle 4 ай бұрын
The snap crackle and pop is called “popcorn” it’s inherently in vinyl, especially with records that have been used. Some producers would enhance popcorn sounds with samples to make the songs grittier. Also, early EQing couldn’t remove popcorn sounds in all cases.

The weird thing is when looking for that static in sound packs to make beats, it's labeled "bacon". I used to make joints with no samples and just add that to it. Erick Sermon did it in one of his best making vids. Craziness.

Some vinyl was dirty due to wear and tear and age of the records. It became a part of the sound. Stack enough samples and the snap and crackling will get loud. It really comes to light during mastering when they add compression and other processes to bring up the levels to industry standard.

Yeah "Otha Fish" is incredible. I feel like no one can bounce like the South and the East has traditionally always had the purest lyricists but when it comes to flow, THAT crown goes to the west. No one does what Cali rappers do from a melodic standpoint. You even think a lot of people believe Bone Thugs got their style of flowing from Myka Nyne of Freestyle Fellowship........

8:05 the way your dad immediately picked up “are you experienced” by Jimi Hendrix was awesome. Music is universal. Connecting generations with one another through sampling and recycling. Some see it as knockoff , but I’m glad to see your dad isn’t closed minded and is welcoming to that sort of thing. The main sample is Quincey Jones - summer in the city.

The crackling wasn't left in or applied. In the beginnings of hip-hop, we worked with what we had and had absolutely no way to take it out. People that didn't have the equipment to make their own beats, used a lot of samples. The crackling is incidental and sounded good. It was just there. It's like watching a movie and seeing insects in the background. You don't add them in or take them out. They're just there and it works. It's part of nature. It was later that people started to choose to add it in or take it out, and this was only after equipment had the ability to do so and people either wanted a clean sound, or a nostalgic authentic old sound. In the beginning, it wasn't a choice. I know... I was there.

the reason we hear the samples clearer back then was because the artists wanted us to know that they were sampling a dope classic line and for us to know which artist that was. They left a small distortion on them. Now they don't care about shouting out the sampled artist, they just want to sell their own song so they blend in a proven catchy sample seamlessly.

Summer in the City" by Quincy Jones, "125th Street Congress" by Weather Report, and "Are You Experienced?" by The Jimi Hendrix Experience These are 3 of the songs sampled for this song. Thank you both I enjoy watching your vids. My mom and I stay talking about music all the time. I am 52 years old and not only do I know where and what the samples are because the sampled songs are from my childhood but as a young adult at the time when this song and album came out it takes me right back to a place and chokes me up still. Peace from the south side of Chicago.

The static is something that you get from vinyl samples. I think they enhanced on the beat. Another grouo that applied that sound was The Roots in their song distortion of static. The irony was they were/are a hip hop band that makes it a point to use live instruments.

I think, what they got the inspiration for from The Doors movie might be Alabama Song(Whiskey Bar). Listen to it and you might agree. Both song similar and makes sense
