Outstanding !!! Beautiful old A, I just picked up my first John Deere tractor yesterday and it's a 1949 A and I love it. Thank you for the inspiration.

Thanks so much and thank for finding us. How have things worked out with the A. Did you buy it running or is it a project?

@@OzziesOddities bought it in good running condition and will most likely leave it as is, I kinda like it in its work clothes.

My dad, after he got rid of the AC WD, got a 40 A JD. I remember it cause everytime he started it it would let off a BANG like a loud cal gun what with it setting in the tractor shed. Later, he got rid of it and got a 48 H Farmall, like Ive got now, only his was painted and stenciled perfectly. He then got a 1 row Woods Bros picker. I remember me and bro comeing home from school and seeing it and thinking our corn picking with Florie and Dixie and a high wheeled wagon was over. Little did we know wed still have to pick out the ends and a couple places down the middles. He would have to unhook the picker from the tractor, then the wagon from the picker, which he did in reverse. Unhooked the wagon, pulled up a bit then unhooked the picker, then take the wagon down to the corn crib where occasionally I or bro would have to unload it while ( i suspect he made whoope with mom) lol. Well that got old, so he got a 2 row mounted picker. Well, we started picking in the fall while it was still muddy clear up into the next year if need be, and the H just couldnt handle the picker hunched on its back with a full wagon of corn going uphill in ankle mud. But, He couldnt take the wagon to the corn crib as it had a shed built in front of it, so her bought a 37 A JD. I once started it when I was 12. U couldnt start it while it was hot if it died, but it started rather easy when it was cool/cold. I really liked it, but he traded it for a 49 A JD, then a year later got a 50 B JD, Then, in 1965 my uncle Ralph Kentzler, who was my grandmas boy from her first husband died. He had a 41 M fARMALL AND DAD BOUGHT IT FOIR $500 and we put the picker on it with no problems thereafter. So, from there on in we had 3 tractors , one for each of us.

Now that's a great story. Amazing how clear all that stays in the memory. You really remember those tractors, they stick with you. Great story about Florie and Dixie, I never had that experience to speak of, my dad had the Waterloo Boy already when I was pretty young. A 37 JD a now that's old, and very desirable today. Funny you should mention your dad buying an M from your uncle. My wife grew up with an M and I have it in the shop right now going through it to get it moving again.

Too late for you now, but snow removes paint from tires & makes them look brand new after driving for 100' or so.

That's good to know. I never thought of that. Ironically this A was my plow tractor for a number of years, but it hasn't come out in the winter for a good while, so that thought never crossed my mind. I'll remember to try that next time I slobber up some paint on some tires. Thanks for finding us and thanks for the tip!
