I can't get enough of watching someone really experiencing music I know and strong for the first time. I love how he doesn't get caught up on the language and hears it as music and expression from a different culture. Like, that he doesn't "get it" doesn't mean that there's something wrong with "it." That's dope.

Wayne had a run between 2004-2014 where he was arguably the top rapper in the game. When he changed up his style on "Da Carter" and started using a NYC like Flow with those down south New Orleans tracks, it was over for all other rappers for a minute. Eventually, Wayne became so influential, NYC rappers starting mimicking Southern artists like him in their appearance and in even their sound.

Wayne's been active since the 90s. He has albums before the Carter series. They're pretty good. One of my favorite pre-Carter Wayne tracks being "Tha Blues." Certainly of the time, but you can see the talent in the child. Baby (Birdman) didn't let Wayne use profanity until he turned 18, so his teenage music is expressive but not profane. Really a fascinating career.

Two things that would be helpful to know when understanding this track: 1) it is a freestyle (i.e., completely spontaneous); 2) it is an example of playing the dozens/signifying/high-capping, a Black American performative tradition wherein a person magnifies their own persona through clever storytelling or wordplay while degrading another person's persona for the purpose of entertaining an audience.

The “choppa” line is a quintandre, choppa is a gun, choppa is the cops in a helicopter, he’s physically chopping the word verbally as well as finishing “a line” (verbal and written making the allusion to chopping lines of drugs). Wayne does this constantly wether it’s lines that are referencing current affairs of the times within his metaphors and similes, or cutting deep word play with diss mentality. Lyrical genius

A fellow 49 year old soccer mom here! My favorites are the exact same! One of my favorite memories was about 5 years ago, I was in the kitchen baking with my headphones on. I was listening to and I guess singing a bit too loud to "Lollipop". I felt a tap on my shoulder and my then 12 year old son said accusingly "Mom, how do YOU know Lil'Wayne?!" I smiled and said "Question is, how do YOU know him?! You might not believe this, but once upon a time, your Mama had it goin' on!" He walked away shaking his head and later, I heard him saying to my youngest son "You won't believe what I heard Mom singing to today! She was listening to Lil'Wayne, Drake, Juice Wrld and Tupac!" 😆

Hey Kai and Dad! when wayne says c3 3peat at the end C3 = (CARTER 3) its just a acronym for the Carter 3. 3peat means this was the THIRD Carter album in the trilogy. It sold 1 million in a week . In sports a 3peat is when a team wins 3 championships back to back to back meaning they on top. Wayne was saying his first two albums was classic now the third one (C3 aka Carter 3) will be another classic. Which means he wins again lol. C3. 3peat it's just him saying the name of the album, and saying he wins the Rap game yet again with another classic🔥 Ps( Kai dad should react to MR CARTER. another classic on the album. He'd love it . It featured Jay z!)
