Bless grampa Ed’s heart. His generation(same as my grandparents) were raised during era of the depression hence home ownership and being in your home was highly important. My grandparents were adamant about staying in their home until the end, even with my sisters and I asking them to move in with one of us. It was difficult to care for them, for their meals, basic necessities healthcare and upkeep of their home. Especially since my sisters and I all have young families. My husband lost his independence at 51 due to multiple strokes. He’s 69 now. He still misses driving whenever and wherever he wants. I work hard every day to help maintain his dignity even though he cannot communicate, make decisions, and a host of other things. My heart broke when grandpa said all he had was in one room. I can almost hear my husband’s voice as he looks around Dan’s room with a bit of childlike jealousy. It’s extremely depressing and trying to be a caregiver, but it’s worth it to have your loved one still here.

It is nice but very lonely as she is not a joiner, to use her terms and is by herself all the time.Unfortunately I am not close by or I would there all the time. I hate that my family did this to her. She has no dementia and after pt is steady on her feet. She will never complain but in just 6 mths I see her losing interest in everything, even tv, and it breaks my heart to think of her sitting in little room just waiting for God

Momentarily (seconds) for Pop but it resonantes for you. I applaud you keeping so calm and patient but please don't let it hurt for too long. I remember these days with my Mom.
