Having lived in Texas for 25 years, I can tell you that the locals call it H-E-B just as you described it. The company started in 1905 by Florence Butt in Kerrville and she called it C. C. Butt Grocery Store. In 1919, Howard Edward Butt, Florence's youngest son, took over the store upon his return from World War I. And then he started calling it H-E-B, for obvious reasons. It now has about 420 locations in Texas and Mexico.

The Bourbon Cookies are a British classic. Of course, they call cookies biscuits, so you can find an entry in Wikipedia on “Bourbon Biscuit”, but nothing on “Bourbon Cookie”. That article says, “The Bourbon name, dating from the 1930s, comes from the former French and Spanish royal House of Bourbon”. So it doesn’t have anything to do with alcohol.

Good morning Brother. HEB is initials of the founder Howard Edward Butt, founded in 1919, in Kerville Texas. Howards Mother actually started the grocery store, Florence Butt, in 1905, in Kerville Texas. We call it HEB, just the letters. We are very lucky to have such a diligent person such as yourself, bringing us great ideas in an entertaining format. My Wife, and myself so look forward to your new vids each week. Bless you, and your Family. See you on the trail.

South Texas here and HEB is everywhere. Really spoils you, but they have a tendency to carry store brands on cookies in particular. To my knowledge have never seen the Hereford pouch brisket. Dangit! I have some of their seasoned beef crumbles, spicy seasoned beef crumbles, meatballs in sauce and roast beef in gravy in pouches (as well as the same roast beef in gravy in cans). Now I really want to try that brisket. I know you have said you prefer cans for emergency storage but I prefer pouches when I can get stuff I want to store in them. The reasons are: if conditions become less than ideal, pouches don't rust, pouches also don't dent, I can store what would be a whole shelf full of cans in a shoebox sized tote if I have pouches. Cans do have some advantages, though. No critter is going to chew into a can (not sure if that is a problem with pouches), it is easier to find a greater variety of stuff in cans and, unless you find pouch stuff at a discount store, you often get as much or more in a can than in a pouch for less money. This was a fun video as always. Thanks for suffering the heat if the studio for us!

@@dadbudgetadventures Yep. SHTF can be a personal event, too. My job of 15 years got eliminated for budget reasons right at the start of the pandemic. I found a temp job here and there but having a good supply of shelf stable food meant my trips to the grocery could be supplemental - just for fresh meat and produce so I wasn't always eating canned stuff, dry beans, etc. - and that I wasn't going to go hungry until I got a new, full time job almost two years (a year and ten months) later.

Another GREAT video. A side note. I use the bags..1 lb that coffee comes in for “ prepper storage”. Why? Well….they are more rugged than the ordinary plastic clear bags….they are resealable….like a zip lock…and since lm already buying the coffee…it’s a good repurpose. So my dry socks…in a coffee bag….my fire start stuff…in a coffee bag……things like hard candy and coffee packets like you use…in a coffee bag. All get labeled with duct tape and a sharpie. You have great knowledge you are sharing…you are HELPING people have the means to prepare “ MRE” for any emergency that may beset them. Screw the nay sayers and haters…do what you’re doing…..you are doing it RIGHT

Hi DBA. Over here in the UK we tend to call the bourbon biscuits/cookies bore bon biscuits, don't ask me why, it is just how I was told they were pronounced. They have always been my second favourite biscuit, only beaten by an all butter shortbread biscuit. If you ever find a proper Scottish made shortbread you will not be sorry. By the way, I know everyone is different, but I do not like dunking any sandwich type biscuit, or chocolate covered ones, but I do like dunking plain ones. Much love and respect, as always, from me Jo, here in South East England. xx

Thanks again for another great video. I see the link for your truckers lunch box. How have you liked that one? I've been shopping for one and am very nervous to buy nameless Chinese company products, but it's all I can find. Have you ever had problems with it being too small? Have you considered doing an MRE from an ethnic grocery (Latin, Asian, Indian, African, etc.)? It would be neat if you are looking for a challenge.
@dadbudgetadventures

I’ve done one from our international market but not a specific ethnic store. I like this lunchbox but I do wish it was bigger. This is a bit limiting. It works great though.

Question: All things considered like flavor, packaging, price... Which honey product would you choose if you had to pick one for all future MREs, the honey comb bite or the honey in the squeeze pouch?
@dadbudgetadventures
@dadbudgetadventures 6 ай бұрын
I’d pick the little red pouches just because the bites aren’t in the best individual containers. They are great for a kit that’s well taken care of but not so much for one that might be treated roughly like for a through hike.

Utah is a looooong way from an HEB, but I can at least look for similar things here. BTW, the auto-focus issue was not nearly as distracting as your sometimes jerky editing. H-E-B are the initials of the son of the company's founder. His name was Howard E. Butt. We love H-E-B. Large stores with a great product selection, spacious well-lit aisles, and friendly helpful employees make the experience just about as good as grocery shopping gets. They've got a large variety of store-brand products which are available at really good prices. There's also huge selections of high quality products in their deli, including things like served-hot butter tortillas. Although we lived in the DFW area of northeast Texas for over fifteen years, we now live in South Louisiana. We still have kids and grandkids who are in the Dallas area and the Austin area. Whenever we go to visit, we make it a point to shop there. A friend who is originally from the Beaumont area has lunch once a month with some former coworkers, friends, and fellow ham radio operators. There's a very nice H-E-B just one mile from the restaurant where they regularly meet. Whenever we go (which is about a two hour drive), my wife places an H-E-B curbside pickup order the night before the trip. After lunch, we scoot over and our groceries are delivered curbside.
