Dado's revisited: Superb Goan fish thalis in Benaulim, Goa, Dec 2023

Today, Maria and I are back at Dado’s in Benaulim, a place for great, home-style Goan cooking, run by our neighbours and good friends.

Our friends Kimberley and Scott Fernandes are running Dado’s. They had a food cart and catering business first, before opening this place about a year ago.
Kimberley loves cooking and especially started cooking only for Scott. He used to take her to restaurants and tell her, after eating, go home and prepare this for me. Next day she used to make the same thing and he used to say, “no need of going to restaurant again, this is best”. They have been together almost 14 years now.
Running a restaurant is hard work, but they love it.
Besides superb Goan fish curry rice lunches, Dado’s also does awesome traditional Goan breakfasts, everything from Goa sausage omelette to choris pao and cafreal bread
Maria and I revisited with a bunch of friends from Delhi, who were holidaying in Goa and wanted to enjoy an authentic Goan lunch. We tried the delicous prawns thali, leppo thali, veg thali, kingfish thali and modso thali.
Dado’s veg thali has dal, a vegetable fodi, patal bhaji (thin gravy vegetable), tidki midki (beans) bhaji, salad, rice, papad and chapati
The fish thalis have tidki midki (beans) bhaji, teesrio, papor, rice, prawn curry, pickle, kismur, fried fish, and salad. As it was winter season, Dado's also gave us some lovely lightly picked mango slices. We enjoy these in Goa starting in winter when the young mangoes start emerging
We’re done with lunch except for one thing. Vasant is keen to try one of the breakfast items - chicken cafreal pao. He said it was the best 'burger' he had in Goa so far!
