I needed this insight today. Thank you. The topic of whose ox was gored was the subject of my very first talmud lesson some sixty years ago.

The wit of Jane Austen, the lore of Tolkien, and the learning of Chazal. Never thought those three things would ever be in the same room, but I am here for it!

Now this is a real compliment! Thank you so much!!! It is a truth universally acknowledged that a woman in possession of a Talmud must be in want of some LOTR comparisons!

So many thoughts about this video! 1. Good on you for going back to your usual incisingly witty format. It must be tough with everything that's been going on, and you're doing us all a mitzvah by carrying on. 2. You said "Rav, not Gandalf", but I propose that the whole exploration the intention behind "good morning" at the beginning of The Hobbit is some rabbinic-level nitpicking. 😂 3. Probably off-topic, but I love your top!
@MiriamAnzovin10 ай бұрын
Thank you! And you are so right about Gandalf and good morning at the beginning of the hobbit! That’s exactly like the beginning of tractate Brachot arguing about what time to say the Shema and when is breakfast. I think the question they should have included is when is SECOND breakfast?! That’s it. We just have to re-write all the works of Tolkien in the format of the Talmud!! It’s so close to it already!!!! (And thank you for the shirt compliment!)

@@MiriamAnzovin I know there's a Hebrew edition of LotR... maybe the translators would be into helping!

Welcome back. IMHO the best way to deal with the emotional storm accompanying a war is to try to keep living as normally as possible. Please also do videos about the fun stories at the end of Kiddushin that you skipped. And thank you for the LOTR refernces. I know nothing about Game of Thrines.
@MiriamAnzovin10 ай бұрын
I will return to those stories at the end of kiddushin, i definitely plan to. And lol you are welcome. While there are many applicable GOT references, I’m taking a lot of comfort from LOTR right now, as I always have during difficult times in my life. And I know that’s true for many others!

I'm still not over the bit if fat shaming that went on in 10 (poor guy just wanted to sit), but also the random "⅓+ for a Mitzvah" random entry that made my brain start to stray. Why was it there...in that spot...just randomly hanging out when the sages are talking Earth, Wind, and Fire (and teeth) damage?! All the LOTR references, Miriam. All of them. Thanks! Needed this today!
@MiriamAnzovin10 ай бұрын
I KNOW! That part was so upsetting and went on for SO LONG. What happened to not embarrassing each other as a Jewish value, I’d like to know!! I am so glad to be able to bring all these LOTR references to you. I, as well, think I needed them today!

Sansa thinks she owns you and therefore would be responsible for your actions. The bunker wasn't in the middle of the road, but in the neighbor's yard. Our court system would make the neighbor's responsible even though you were trespassing because they didn't post signs or a fence to protest. However, the past made you what you are today, and all readers would have to admit there are no damages, only someone enjoyable.
@MiriamAnzovin10 ай бұрын
You bring up an excellent point that technically their pit was in private not public land! However I was not trespassing as I had been invited over! But correct, if I hadn’t fallen in the pit I couldn’t joke about it now 😂
