Those songs in particular sounded so alien, and felt like they had so many emotions to give, with Contact having a feeling of both wonder and terror, Giorgio having a sense of warmth and triumph, and Touch giving me thoughts of bitter-sweetness and somber joy.

Despite often being criticized for its simplicity, to me, Human After All (The Album) felt the most deep in a way. A journey of two robots just wanting to be human. It's enthralling, Daft Punk's robotic motif tells a story over the albums. I remember an early interview, they mentioned that "one day, they were bathed in a light from the sky and became robots" and were learning what that meant. Homework was trying to figure that out. Discovery was learning what they could do and what it meant. THIS album and the title track represented how they were human after all, despite their looks, despite what happened, they were human after all.

I actually wrote an essay about the lyrics to this song in 12th grade, about why this is my favorite song and what it means to me:"Not So Daft After All" Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, the French electronic music duo known as Daft Punk, are famous of their dance and progressive house compositions, such as One More Time and Get Lucky or others lack any deep meaning beyond “have fun and dance.” 2005 marked the release of Daft Punk’s third album Human After All: a slight change in taste for the robots, as the songs dove into darker and more thoughtful themes. That is especially apparent with the title song, as this track not only speaks about human discrimination, but also has a strong message about how society may be going down the wrong path. After a fifty second long intro, the first lyrics of the song sung in Daft Punk’s robotic vocals “We are human after all, much in common after all.” This repeats eight times, with a synth and a guitar beat in the background, which creates an easy-going and somewhat eerie mood. But despite the simplicity of the lyrics, there is a lot Daft Punk is saying is this verse. The obvious message is that we are all human, and we are all the same. The lyrics are Thomas and Guy-Manuel’s way of acknowledging that humans may all be different, but we have more in common then we think. Much like John Lennon's Imagine, Daft Punk’s Human After All contains a flat-out anti-discrimination and anti-violence message. Race, gender, religion, sexual preference; none of it matters. And none of it should matter because “We are human after all, much in common after all.” The last minute or so of Human After All is where the song takes an interesting turn. The lyrics are “Human, human, human, human, human, human, human, human, human, human, human, human, human, human, human after all” and this repeats seven times. Repetitive and simple as it is, more so then the previous four minutes, this section of the song sets the mood just as well. What’s interesting is that this section contradicts the first section, as the mood is a little different. Rather than being happy that we are human and that every human is the same, Thomas and Guy-Manuel are saying that we should be ashamed of all being the same. In other words, humans are too alike. One could even suggest that the hypnotic lyrics in this verse are saying that we humans have degraded into brainless zombies, doing what all the other brainless zombies are doing. The lyrics and the way which they are presented raise the questions: how human are we? Are we more machine then human? These philosophical ideas make this section of the song more thought-provoking, as opposed to simply telling us what to think, like in the beginning. So, with these two contradicting ideas Thomas and Guy-Manuel are trying to get across in Human After All, only thing is certain: they’re not saying humans are perfect. We have a lot to improve about ourselves and Daft Punk acknowledges this. And if we are to disagree, well, we must be pretty daft ourselves.

This is my fav album, weirdly underrated amongst the other albums for some reason.
@greentoby26 Жыл бұрын
I'm with you on the underratedness, but I don't find it that weird. Homework was pioneering and ahead of its time (also most people don't really know what's on it other than Around the World), Discovery was super catchy and defining a genre and RAM was terribly overrated pop music. HAA was none of this - it was rough, repetitive and not easily accessible. That makes for a very effective 'underrated' formula.
@redecho96695 жыл бұрын
This album is underrated because most of the people does not want that much thinking for a song, and this album brings out songs like technologic and human after all, wich are songs that stays in your head for the rest of your life, wich is why i think this is one of my favourite album, that i cannot stop listening to every single song of it.
