I don't know why Khabib said that in the first place because I didn't see the whole interview but you can't argue with that at all. We have and had multiple world champions from Dagestan and a lot of very promising contenders as well. If you're talking success in MMA per capita there is no place in the world like Dagestan. Also: People not understanding that Dagestan *officially* is a part of Russia (or more fittingly: the Russian Federation) but really is something of its own is wild to me. There are even Texans who say they are Texans, not Americans (but often times they will raise the US-flag as well). Dagestan is 1000 times more independent culturally and when it comes to identity.

During the time of the mongols even mongol generals warned their commanders not to venture to far into that region because as one general or commander stated “do not go to that rugged land for you will only find sorrow and despair as its inhabited by djinn and fairies” what he meant was the men were so tough that they believed there’s no way they could be human and also the reference to fairies being their women were very beautiful. This is coming from the mongols who were renowned horsemen and took over most of the eastern hemisphere all the way up to Italy and Spain. So it just goes to prove that all this talk about steroids and stuff in some cases may be true but the legends from the byzantines to the mongols and even as recently as the Russians I think in the 1800’s and prior goes to show these people have always been regarded as almost myth like hence the reference to djinn well before there was any access to steroids. The regions back then are now the countries of Georgia,Chechnya,Dagestan,Ossetia mainly! And we know how brutal the mongols we’re so for these warriors to speak of men from that region in that way just goes to show the level of respect they had for them as warriors

Clearly when things were even with the mongols and byzantines they were called djinn because they found it hard to believe these were average men. Clearly maybe you have some kind of bias and im not even Muslim I’m just speaking facts buddy, also research the first Chechen war. I mean if you wanna take it that way its a good argument, two very small country's both with very well known fighting approaches that were both under the control of a larger empire. We should be allies in this game, imagine if khabib learned to throw like connor or connor had that wrestling mindset they've developed that prioritises position over pin totally. Irish mma is generally thought with the idea you know how to punch already so let's focus on that stuff where they do the opposite aswell. You can look at irish mma and say it didn't take off but if you consider the range of gyms irish fighters succeed in and compare that to the honestly one and all approach the dagestani gyms seem to have. I think the differences in our success can be far easier chalked up to culture and at worst a sign irelands gone behind the times in our mindset (we all support each other so competitive mindsets are fine) and should start emulating the approach the dagestani guys are using rn (they refuse to compete against eachother near exclusively and have a many heads one body approach)
