The purpose of this training flight was to ensure sufficient short field pilot technique for landing the TBM at a slightly longer runway in the Exumas, Bahamas, i.e., Staniel Cay. I am new to editing video and this was a trial run prior to the Bahamas trip.

Wetumpka brought many memories back. Used to live in Prattville just a few miles away and flew into Wetumpka many times. Thanks for the momories.

Hi Jason, great video. I just completed Simcom Initial on the TBM700 (haven't flown the real thing yet) and had some procedural questions. In my training Bleed Air is turned on as a check list item prior to takeoff. I noticed in your video and some others that BA is turned on after takeoff, and I was curious on the pros/cons turning BA per checklist or after. Also, my instructor drilled the following after rotation - Gear up, Flaps Up, Yaw Damper On, stating it was important for keeping the rudder in trim automatically on takeoff. Thanks.

Hey Jordan, Bleed air can be turned on prior to takeoff or after takeoff. It really depends on the ambient temperature and your ITT limitations. If you advance the power too quickly when bleed air is on and the inertial separator is on, and it is hot outside, the ITT temperature can be easily exceeded. When it is cooler outside, BA is turned on after startup and left on until after landing to cool the ITT. I work as a contract instructor for a TBM Instruction company out of Georgia and we teach two things; the before-takeoff mnemonic LAFTIC and the after-takeoff mnemonic GIFY-B. LAFTIC is Lights on, Air (BA), Flaps (T/O), Trims, Ice (Pitot heat), CAS (checked). GIFY-B is after a positive rate of climb, gear up, inertial separator as desired, flaps up at 110 KTS, yaw damper on, bleed air on if not already. Unless you have newer avionics in the 700 model you are flying, yaw damper does not trim the rudder. In fact, you have to turn off the yaw damper to trim the rudder, then re-engage the yaw damper after trimming is accomplished. Any G1000, G3000, or new G600 TXi digital output with Garmin input autopilots, e.g., GFC600, GFC700, etc., the rudder is automatically trimmed to coordinated flight when the yaw damper is engaged. Hi @@clarkemeister, thanks for your detailed response. I'm currently looking at avionics upgrade options as part of the acquisition as it is a stock 700B model. At minimum it will include a G600txi panel, 2xGTN750xi and the GFC600 AP. Debating adding EIS, and if so a 7" dedicated EIS screen or a second g600txi (you know how it goes...). Also debating adding a retrofit AOA. Thanks again.

Jason do you own a this TBM? I’m in Montgomery and own a Cirrus SR22 and have some questions regarding the 700 series.
