I have been putting a ring of Vaseline around the stem of the Dahlias below the unopened bud. It has stopped all the bugs from eating my Dahlia flowers 🦋
@InTheGardenWithClaudia Жыл бұрын
That is amazing! I never thought to do that. Have you always done this?
@shanlynwebb Жыл бұрын
@@InTheGardenWithClaudia no, but every year my beautiful Dahlias were being eaten buy bugs. I happened to watch a professional Dahlia grower in England on u tube and that’s what he does every year and the Dahlias are perfect So I have done this since and it’s wonderful and easy to do x

Thank you so much! I’ve seen those little beetles on mine too!!! Your flowers are so beautiful! It’s my first year having dahlias and I am so amazed at how gorgeous they are!!!! I’m hooked Lol!!!! 🌺🌺🌺🪴🪴🪴🤍🤍🤍

Marion they are so addicting! I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who’s grown dahlias, and not immediately fell in love with them. Those little beetles can be very annoying, but if you check on your plants daily, you can really keep everything under control. I’m excited to share more about the beautiful varieties we’re growing this year in an upcoming video. 😍

Did you do a video on how you prepared your soil or what amendments you give to make your soil more fertile? Really appreciated this tutorial. Thank you!

Yes I have several dahlias videos. 😍 The last one I spoke about planting can is titled ‘Planting Dahlias 2023 A Full Dahlia Growing Guide.’ Here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXvXlKKmg86Klbssi=bNZmMErDRCEUpsPx If you have any questions let me know, I am more than happy to help. 💗

Im so impressed with all your beautiful dahlias! Im in zone 9a in Houston Texas and would love to start growing these beauties in my garden. Will they do well in this heat we are having this year? Im trying to read up on how to grow and care for them before I make the expense of purchasing some. Thank you so much for your wonderful, helpful videos! 🌻🌹

Hi Yolanda! You guys certainly are having quite a hot summer down there, how is your garden doing? I addresses this in a previous Planting Dahlias Video where I talked about planting in hot climates like Texas- in short, you can grow dahlias in your zone, I would get a head start on getting them in the ground before it gets too hot. For example, we plan our dahlias around Mother’s Day, you guys could start planting them a lot earlier. Dahlias do like full sun, but if you can plant them in the area that gets a little bit of partial shade in the afternoon, I think they would do well for you. I also recommend asking your local nurseries, they’re going to be very familiar with your guys his growing conditions when it comes to Dahlias, but I do have followers that are in Texas and grow dahlias and they seem to be doing OK, but again they plan their dahlias a lot earlier in the season.

Thank you for another great video. Your dahlia garden is so beautiful. I have a question on fertilizing. Since all the dahlias are on drip system, how do you fertilize them? Do you manually feed them? And if so do you feed them like you would be deep watering them?
@InTheGardenWithClaudia Жыл бұрын
I’m so glad you enjoy my videos, that made my day. 💗 The fertilizers I use are liquid, so I mix big batches and feed them with a watering can. It does take a bit of time but it works for me now. At the beginning of the season I start them with a granular fertilizer and compost so that also helps them get started. I have battery powered pumps as well, but I like hand feeding the best for now.

Beautiful dahlia garden & such helpful information. I garden in zone 8b, Olympic Peninsula. I'm curious to know what your dahlia placement is (12"?? or more apart) also what type of string or wire you are using for tge support. Thank You!
@InTheGardenWithClaudia Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Nancy! I typically plant my dahlia’s 9 inches apart, which is pretty tight but I keep the leaves trimmed back so they do OK. I typically recommend people to plant them 12 inches apart. As far as the string, it’s a twisted nylon utility twine that you can get at any big box store like Home Depot or online. Btw we LOVE the Olympic Peninsula area! How do you like gardening there? 🥰

@@InTheGardenWithClaudia, thank you, I planted mine about a foot apart, but didn't remove the bottom leaves, I will definitely try that next year. I especially enjoy the long growing season, we are about a mile from Puget Sound & I really love our misty morning. Our soil is sandy & we've amended it with yards of compost, so everything grows so well. Happy Gardening!

I bought some discounted dahlia tubers. Is it too late to plant them? I know they probably won't bloom for me, but I figured it would be better than just leaving them as dried up tubers ??? Should I just perhaps start storing them in vermiculite like I usually do for winter since it's so late in the season??? what do you think?
@InTheGardenWithClaudia Жыл бұрын
What gardening zone are you in? At this point I would say to store them, but tell me your gardening zone first.
