"Limbo is the accumulated remains of a thousand dead worlds, timeless and infinite. Yet it is not a lifeless realm, because something old sleeps here, something that watches and waits. Think twice before you break the ancient walls within the dungeons, because whatever built them did so for a very, very good reason. There are eyes in the dark, and you are not supposed to be here." - Quoted from the Dimensional Door Mod Page.

I understand where you're coming from, but there was a few factors that made me decide to include it regardless of its current relevancy. Even though its one of the most popular mods made, a huge portion of the player base has never touched it, and probably never would've if it wasn't just recently updated (an update that came out not long after I finished writing the initial script of the video). At the time of scripting the video, hardly anyone was actually talking about what the Aether mod included, rather any discussion would just be thinking back on its existence or referencing it through memes. My thought process behind "forgotten" wasn't necessarily "mods that no one remembers at all because they were hardly significant", but more "mods that once were a staple to mod the game with that have now fallen out of the public interest". Of course with the re-release of the Aether on current versions, it's not as forgotten in that sense as it was, but it's impact on the modding scene and relevancy to the topic made it a priority to cover in my mind at the time :))

Current main developer of Dimensional Doors here. I just was made aware of your video. The segment of Dimensional Doors was nice and I like your style of animated character. I just wanted to clarify a few things that are different in the most recent versions. - Most doors can be placed directly on a rift as they all can have a dimensional door variant. - Gold doors no longer give you a dungeon. Its was debug way to test dungeons easier. The dungeon door is now a stone door. - We have a crafting block for a lot of items and block called the Tessellating Loom. There is a lot more planned and has been for years! Oh and here is probably the best part for pack creators. Almost EVERYTHING is datapackable. The functionality of doors, dungeons, and even limbo decay. Still need on guides for this stuff though.

It let you charge to open a temporary rift anywhere in the world, leading to an isolated pocket at that position. It left a temporary rift at the position you entered, where the door would normally come out in a regular pocket. However, you didn't have to use that rift to come out. You could charge-open another rift with the Rift Blade, and it would send you out at the relative coordinates of that rift in your original dimension. ~

I loved some of the really wild and interesting dimensions that would spawn or you could create, and the way their instability worked. And just exploring and finding new random pages always felt like opening new opportunities for what I could explore next. RFTools Dimensions had a lot of the same functionality in making dimensions, but lacked a lot of the intrigue and charm of Mystcraft. I'm also just an absolute sucker for the lore of the Myst series, and Mystcraft feels like it fits super well into magic themed modpacks. I really wish someone would revive it. I would if I had any actual coding/mod development knowledge (and it's the one project that has tempted me most to learn how to).

For Dimensional Doors, I miss the original function of the Rift Blade. It let you charge to open a temporary rift anywhere in the world, leading to an isolated pocket at that position. It left a temporary rift at the position you entered, where the door would normally come out in a regular pocket. However, you didn't _have_ to use that rift to come out. You could charge-open another rift with the Rift Blade, and it would send you out at the relative coordinates of that rift in your original dimension. This let you do things like come up to a wall, open a rift next to it, go inside, walk past the where the wall is in reality (Maybe pillaring up a little to match terrain) then open another rift inside that pocket to escape at your new relative coordinates, letting you walk past the wall without walking past it. It was like Miegakure: You come to an impassable obstacle, then utilize the 4th dimension to walk _around_ that obstacle, and come back.

dimensional doors was in the RAD modpack. I was always interested in the concept of dimensions existing side by side to ours, so while my friends cleared dungeons I wanted to learn anything about it. Like you said there is something about it that just pulls you in. RAD offered many other dimensions as well, it must have been well over a dozent. My mission was to visit every dimension, collect rare items from them and somehow link them in one place we called interdimensional railroad station. 2:43 Slight correction, Minecraft has had dungeons since Alpha. That's the square room with a mob spawner and 0-2 chests nearby. Not much to explore with them per-se, but they were always something to stumble upon while exploring a cave, loot the chests, and maybe take advantage of the spawner later.

I think he meant bigger structures like Mineshafts, Strongholds, and Woodland Mansions.

@@Boomblox5896 Probably, but it's not correct to say that Minecraft didn't have dungeons _period_ back when the Aether came out.

@@DonnaPinciot Also I recall he said there were no dungeons TO EXPLORE. The dungeons we had back then were just single rooms. You can't really "explore" that like you can explore a mansion or temple.

It may not be as popular as these mods, but my childhood was defined by Divine RPG. Even if it’s broken, unfinished, unbalanced, and probably abandoned. Series from captain sparklez and atlanticraft were my favorite.

I had a bad habit of downloading mods w/o reading what anything does. I almost destroyed our base with the dimensional doors, I had to have us exit the server while I looked up why blocks were disappearing, haha. As for tropicraft, I loved the palm trees and new items, but I had no clue up until now that it was a dimension mod. Excited to redownload these and check them out again

Bro this video is well made! I especially loved the parts where your character shows on some scenario, like, even though it is mostly still this is a show of cool dedication and looks so cool, ur character too so simple yet the black and white scheme fits so well, the video edition too is well made most of the time, this is top tier content ngl, suprised how you have not 100k yet.

Tropicraft is still to this day one of my favorite mods and is ALWAYS a must-have addition whenever I make mod packs. It's easily one of the most charming and pleasant mods ever made, bursting at the seams with character and personality that is lacking in a lot of mods. Tropicraft knows what it wants to be, and does it with flying colors.

This gave me slight nostilga of remembering my first interaction with the dimentional doors mod. I remember starting the game on a modpack and finding a rift, eventually I figured out how I made a portal and when I entered I got creeped to death. It was probably one of the scariest experiences of my childhood but it was in some way still a very fun memory to look at. Btw love the dedication and the video focus on quality rather than quantity.

I can't believe people are not talking about mystcraft. This fricking mod gave us unlimited amounts of multiverses. You could pretty much create any kind of dimension you wanted. You want a dimension with diamond blocks instead of dirt? You can do that but be ready yo get smited because if you make a dimension too rich it becomes unstable. It was the coolest mod ever made imo.

9:22 How TF does literally no KZbinr who plays this mod realize that the Vakyries leave you alone until you attack them? You can even right-click them to have them say something (although it's mostly cheesy lines about their superiority).
