Back in high school, I had a strategy when it came to getting my teachers to accept me having my head down during class. The natural assumption was that I was sleeping and not paying attention, of course. But in reality for the first month I would still be awake and listening. Inevitably a teacher would ask me a question, no doubt to teach me a lesson about sleeping in class by calling me out in front of everyone. To their surprise though, they'd get done asking the question and my head would pop right up and answer correctly and go straight back down. This only had to happen once or twice before I got the reputation of either being that kid who was still listening, or just studied outside of class and was just there out of obligation. The result was most teachers would give up on asking me anything in class, and I got to sleep or let my mind wander, or whatever. To be fair, I DID actually listen a fair amount during class, but I NEVER fucking studied. My grades were average-ish. The only classes I couldn't do this for were like math where you had to watch how something was done.
