@leontartovsky89494 жыл бұрын
People really severely underestimate how difficulty it is for a player like Daigo to maintain such a high level for such a long time. There are so many factors going against him. For one he is undoubtedly the most studied player since back when video footage for his matches were made available for all to see which means that he has had to constantly innovate and switch up his playstyles. Second, he is arguably the most famous player in the entire FGC without a doubt which means that he constantly has fans trying to take photos with him, talk to him, get autographs and even interview him him which doesn’t give me time and space to either practice or study matchups in between rounds. It’s also very exhausting to be stopped so frequently when just walking from one location to another. Third, this point is regarding offline tournaments, people don’t realize how much travel affects performances. Jet lag is real which is why it’s always a huge achievement when an overseas player wins a tournament. Lastly, his legacy which is undoubtedly an external pressure for him to perform and always be winning. Now add to all that to the fact that he is 39 and and the only player older than him that is still performing is Sako but even he does not get as much scrutiny as Daigo. Tokido, Haitani, Fuudo, Nemo and etc are all in their mid or younger 30s. Think about that for a moment. As good as the younger players like Punk, ProblemX and Idom and etc are. They do not have as much going against them with regards to fame, legacy, age and travel. I don’t think many people can and will be able to say that they have had a career as long and successful as Daigo spanning across multiple games in 30 years time. How many of these so called younger players will even be still relevant like SnakeEyez who just disappeared from the face of the earth. PR Balrog and Dieminion who were some of the strongest US players in SF4. I mean just look at how many top players quit or have not performed because SFV was different.

Hey, so many people got a softspot for a try-hard underdog that devotes himself to his craft. Why do you think Ippo has been popular since like the late 80s? Daigo grew up in an actual dojo environment, but found his niche with fighting games. I feel like he possesses a spirituality with the way he trains to take on his opponents, and the fact that so many of his rivals are talented in their own rights, and are mostly younger than him, makes him all the more competitive. His win record hasn't been perfect, but losses are also important events to grow from, if you allow them to be. Daigo and Smug are two of the players I admire the most in this community.

lol... and let's not forget the biggest factor. The FGC has grown soooooo much compared to 20 years ago. There is soooooooo much new talent and those who have access to countless videos and practice so of course Daigo is finding much more difficult competition now. It's a great sign in the FGC for Daigo to have such a struggle against the competition. It means we're evolving.

I called it that Fuudo was basically the one guy who Daigo couldn't be sure of beating, especially after what happened in Topanga League. He may have repaid Tokido in spades for the Topanga beating he took but he still had not repaid Fuudo yet. If Veloren had beaten Fuudo in the runback, he probably would have gotten chewed up and spat back out in Grand Finals.
@dumdum70994 жыл бұрын
True, since the begining of SFV, I feel like Fuudo is the only one that can gives Daigo real trouble. Maybe someday Daigo will figure Fuudo out and beat him in a long set. As of right now, I believe Fuudo is still a bad matchup for Daigo.
@shirakani4 жыл бұрын
@@dumdum7099 At this point IMO if they were to go FT10, Daigo would still probably win but the result would be close, like 10-8 at best. That's assuming Kemonomichi rules ie locked charas and at least 2 weeks prep time each. If no prep time impromptu FT10, up in the air.

Daigo is an enigma when it comes to video games, Its not that hes just great at SF but his ability to take a chracter/matchup, process it, then play it perfectly is almost idk...machine-like? Lol He just takes it to a whole another level. In every field their is someone like this and its fascinating to watch them in it. I couldnt imagine dedicating myself to Fighting games to the level Daigo has, I dont think any other SF players (or other fighting game pros) even take it to that same level. I do think Tokido maybe the closest to getting to that Daigo level, he surely takes it as serious, but imo hes still not their. The next asia qualifier is big for tokido though, so we'll see.
