knife project/boolean -> select one of the 'loose' vertice with two connecting edges -> menu select, select similar, amount of connecting edges 'equal' -> hotkey x, dissolve vertices -> all ngons gone not for all cases, but also useful for cleanup thanks for your useful tips
@tbfrustaci3 жыл бұрын
Another quick way. Select All. Select Loops > Select Boundary Loop. Select > More 1x or more. Face > Poke Faces. If u want to simplify even more. Select All. Mesh > Clean up > Decimate Geometry.

For anyone trying this on a new version of Blender like 3.5 you might need to alter the technique to the following, which I found on a different thread. "Select main object, after that enter the “Edit Mode” and select extracted object with SHIFT key in the OUTLINER window and after that click “Mesh > Knife Project”.
@goroseitto11 ай бұрын
thumbs up for this! Its working in the 3.6.5

Knife projecting that leaf to get a "grid" instead of a messy triangle or ngon is amazing thanks for that. I'm a failing artist about to have a job perhaps but I'll definitely pick your book up when I've got some scratch, I love your videos I learn so much.

Thank you! I'm sure you're not failing, unfortunately people with talent and good taste often feel that way. Only bad artists think they're great.

Always great stuff! I did have a problem with the Knife Project not working properly though. When I would select the object, then the cutter object, and switching to Edit Mode, both objects would deselect themselves and return a Blender error when applying the Knife Project. After Googling, I found the solution online (this is a known bug). Hope this helps any other Windows 10 Blender users out there! Workaround: ✅First, select the object to be cut. ✅ Switch to edit mode ✅ Select an object from outliner (+) to use for projection ✅ Mesh -> Knife Project 😘👌🏼

Never thought of using knife projection to accomplish such complex modeling task. Knife project always seemed to me like a random tool for text and stuff, great to see it's potential. Thumbs up, 10/10!

Good methods. I also use the triangulate modifier, seems to do a logical job of creating edges

I believe it is possible to approach this problem by slightly solidifiing the Ngon (solidify modifier) in order to successfuly quad remesh it (with the modifier), and then weld the vertices back to get rid of the tickness (also with the modifier, weld). I use this technique to get a quad text, instead of a triangle mess, while keeping it non destructive.

That's neat! If you don't mind, I'll use that for today's tip. I'll give you credit of course.

What did you told the last fun fact, it blew my mind off 🤯. So why everyone is using alpha textures
@4ae109 Жыл бұрын
same. i thought alpha textures were faster to render. i think most people use alpha textures because it takes a little bit of digging to find out that textures are often more performance intensive than rendering high polys

what if you have an organic outer shape like the leaf in this example but within that shape you gave other organic shape boundaries that should be holes in the bigger outer organic shape? Using F to fill it with a big n-gon face fails. The organic shapes that should be holes get filled also.
