I keep all of my turtles outdoors in the summer and i hibornate them in the winter in the basement. You said you like outdoor enclosures and i have been doing that for my snappers for almost 14 years

I have an eastern box turtle we rescued her from a dog and when we took a closer look at her we noticed her shell was all scuffed up and then also noticed that she couldn't fully pull her right front leg into her shell so we took her in and now she's my pet and she's awesome :D p.s very picky eater also lol all she'll eat is live night crawlers and strawberries but I use a little trick to get her to eat her veggies.....I hold the worm up until she opens her mouth an then I slip the lettuce into her mouth :3 and yes it's very important to take turtle outside, please take your turtles outside :D

Love this, I have a rescue box turtle too. He ran away from a gang house he was living in in my old neighborhood in terrible conditions! Just letting him walk around the house with needled and trash everywhere.

Your video just reinforces what I am doing at the front yard. I am creating a butterfly garden enclosure for a future box turtle. I am saving up on cement blocks to create an enclosed space of 7ft by 16ft, which is perfect for a turtle that grows normally about 5-7 inches long. I am getting plants in pots that scares away predators such raccoons, possums and cats in the area. Though I would never leave a friend outside alone. I'm very protective of my reptilian buddies. The enclosure is for an hour to two hours of enrichment. Think of it as turtle playground. 😎

Koa's story is touching to me, I have an Ornate box Turtle that I got her from a girl at my school who picked her up on the side of the road and didn't know how to take care of her... she didn't have heat or UVB and not a big enough water dish(she also used a cardboard box as a hide). It's crazy to think if I didn't get her in those months after she found her she could have the same health problems as Koa...

Helena Cantu .... yes she would have been very deformed... sadly this happens everyday turtles taken from the wild. If Koa could survive on his own and wasn't deformed I would have tried to release him. But after 30 years he wouldn't make it.

Hermann Blue and Roxy .... I'm currently making him plans for an outdoor enclosure but sadly Bc he's so deformed his vet (both of them) agree he doesn't have enough shell to protect him from the sun. He can sunburn 😭🐢 so he can only be out about a hour a day when the sun is out, or in the shade a bit longer, but he can't hibernate or be out all day and night! Thanks for asking I adore your babies!!! And i love Herman 💗🐢

I just rescued a N.E.Box . Caught as a hatchling it spent 13 years in a glass tank . Its nails where over an inch . My problem is its beak need a huge trim and I know not how to do . Walmart hunting/fishin section has Night Crawlers an Meal Worms ( Scooby snacks ) other wise its native plants an Veg.. No banana or citrus .

I’m sorry tho, if you got him from a breeder however I would be a bit more worried if he has never been on his own. I always tell people if you find a box turtle. They Are Not Lost! they know their way & how to survive. Leave them be & let them go on living their natural lives. We do more harm keeping them in captivity than good.

Ahmed Omar I made some notes for what they have Box turtle diet: 60% worms and stuff, night-crawlers, feeder fish, (which are not goldfish there are fish called morry’s and platies that’s what I should be feeding them) worms, fish, citckets, shelled shrimp, (warm it up and give it to them) boiled eg, shell, yolk (the shell is actually really good for them) 30% veggies (want dark leafy greens) kale, collard, AND TONS OF GREENS 10% fruit, watermelon, cantaloupe, grapes carrot and squash, cut apple and pear, corn, punkin BABY BOX TURTLES LLOOVVEES POLY POILLIES

JustSamantha 7 ... please please think it through before getting a turtle, esp a box turtle, they live up to 100 years and have very specific needs. They need live worms & veggies with calcium daily, regularly cleaned water pool and huge outdoor enclosures that suit their needs. They cannot be kept in tanks indoors- the only reason koa is in a 40gallon breeder is Bc he is 30 and has been severely neglected so he cannot live outside but a healthy box turtle needs to be outside. I never reccomend box turtles for pets Bc they are picky eaters and reqUire humid environments. If you are wanting one I would suggest a small tortoise they can live indoors and do not require live food. But they too live about 80 years :) Continue to research so you know for sure what is best for you! Thanks for watching :)

Littlelotti's Hartland- what turtle do you suggest I understand they are very hard work but I am very responsible and I know almost everything about these animals but I am still doing research so that I can know exactly everything about them I am not getting my turtle until Christmas so I still have time to do more reserch but what type of turtle do you suggest

JustSamantha 7 ... well I don't suggest turtles at all. They have very complex needs compared to tortoises. Also unless you live in a southern state where it's warm I don't suggest getting a turtle or tortoise in winter Bc they need to be taken outside regularly to be under he sun. It helps them process the calcium same as a Mercury vapor bulb does but better, also tortoises need weeds and grass daily so you will have to take them out to graze weekly. So winter wouldn't work. If you get a tortoise that's older they sometimes need to hybernate in the winter as well so again getting one in winter is a bad idea it can be a stressful time for them since in captivity they are forced to stay awake and they usually wouldn't be awake in the wild. Just some things to consider :)
