Never had the same problem, but I always leave the handbrake off in the garage!! As others have suggested, almost certainly that switch sticking on, I've never investigated that switch but I guess there's a small spring in there which could be sticking. Always feels like a win when problems sort themselves, even if you know its only likely to be temporary. I'd be inclined to get the brake fluid changed though!

Yes, I think a brake fluid change is definitely coming up shortly

Check the schematic Henry, the only thing that makes the light come on & off is the switch. The roughness you mentioned could be the witness mark of the shoe when handbrake is applied. I have similar on my 7 brake shoes. Do the shoes get extended by levers connecting to them with return springs when handbrake is off? It show this in the manual too. I can't imagine that the stag would have the switch made if the cable wasn't relaxed due to a sticking shoe? if that makes sense. As said could be the switch, I would say that the switch makes the ground for the lamp to come on so when handbrake is on the switch is made, could be that it is not being unmade when the handbrake is off, check for position of switch on the assembly.

Ok, I did look at the schematic originally and it was only the switch

Thanks but I am afraid I don't understand 'as the ASMR feel'

@@HenrysGarage ASMR is something that as a relaxing feel about it. The way you do things without getting stressed,my favourite videos are the electrical diagrams

I’m the same, still don’t really like working fully underneath a car.
@HenrysGarage6 ай бұрын
Yeah, depends what I’m doing but the slope always worries me, especially if I’m doing suspension work. Had the MG come off the stands once

I find cars rarely fix themselves. It looks like the switch is sticking. I would have given the switch a clean and sprayed a spot of WD40 on it.
@HenrysGarage6 ай бұрын
Generally not even as frequently as rarely. I’ll give it a spray with WD40 when it happens again.
