I drive my 02 GT daily and doing great. Lowering it did cause a problem on speed bumps but careful crossing gets me through. Usual bolt ons. Changing the gears helped a lot with stick shift to drive around town.

Yea speed bumps can get sketchy if you are lowered too much, I can clear most small speed bumps, but scrape my exhaust on the larger ones, the noise hurts my soul 😂

@NinniNkip777 sorry. Stock differential gears are too long for my area. With a change to 3.55 or 3.73 I'm able to use my second gear more often around town and my fifth gear is also more usable , lowering fuel consumption.

These cars are very reliable. I can't say much for yours since it's got over 200k and an engine swap and a ton of use on it, but as long as it gets you around I guess it's good...OH I did buy a 2002 GT with 165k mile on it and that car definitely showed it's age, and was a big slower. However basic maintenance is easy and if i lived somewhere without a deep winter I'd daily drive a new edge or SN95 all day. cheap, easy to fix.

The only thing I’ve changed is the stock loop spark plugs , to Accel step colder plugs and Sr Performance coil packs. Car gets 25-27 MPG highway and 19.6 city .

The oil pump is the only issue I know of in these cars at these ages, regardless of mileage. I owned a 1998 ford mustang cobra, which is the 4v variant of the 4.6l v8 modular lineup. I experienced a few issues. Firstly, the seats, which can be replaced, are quite flimsy, but otherwise comfortable. Secondly, the console area can become quite hot if driven for extended periods in the summer time, at least mine did. Thirdly, the oil pressure gauge is NOT a true pressure gauge, which led to my issue. One day I was driving on the highway at speeds between 80-100 miles per hour on a straight highway. The oil light suddenly began to flash. I pulled over, shut the vehicle off, popped the trunk, and proceeded to check the engine oil. The oil looked okay, so I assumed the motor wasn't getting a proper amount of oil. I let the car cool off, took my exit, which was right in front of my car, and drove home. I traveled at speeds no greater than 30mph for my two mile commute. I even placed the car in neutral and shit it off so I could coast down my .7 tenths of mile hill. Once I got home I shut the car off. My buddy rigged a digital oil pressure gauge on the car and confirmed the oil was dropping to 0psi periodically and sporadically. I kneeled down in front of the car and heard a faint "knocking" sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The engines in these cars are highly reliable, but the oil pumps should be changed if the car is over 15 years old. I have found that my problem is quite common in these vehicles when they're older than 15 years.

Bought mine with 130k miles sold it with 180k seen it just the other day for sale with 230k miles was amazed it was still around I beat on it all the time lol only problem I ever had was the intake manifold cracked $150 and a few hours in labor went ahead and did the water pump and aluminum radiator new coils and spark plugs. Early on when I got it went all those miles and never touched anything other than oil changes and brakes. Honestly probably one of my favorite daily drivers I’ve ever owned just for around town runs and hell even short trips. Not the most powerful car in the world but gets up to speed does highway speeds and rides smooth.

I've owned 3 4th gen Mustangs. A 97 I worked on for 5 years before a drunk driver totaled it (I miss it every day), an 04 with every bolt on imaginable that never broke down minus a tie rod. And my current is a Black 01 GT vert. (Same floor mats as yours even) This one also has a lot of work done to it but it is a gem in reliability, I can always go out and count on it to start and drive with no issues. Just need to save up and do a new soft top but all these south Florida shops are so expensive and I don't have the space to do it myself. A note to anyone who wants to buy one of these, absolutely do it! However keep note of the front end, you will most likely end up doing Tie rods, ball joints control arms etc. All 3 of mine have needed this done, if you can do it yourself you'll save some decent money. 4th gens from factory didn't have the best front ends apparently. Just finished getting new UPR control arms put on the UPR K member and it's a night and day difference the car feels brand new again.

I used to daily mine until usually winter hits in my 04 for a few years and the only issues I ever faced were scrapping exhaust and the clutch cable snapped. One of fords greatest motors and cars to work on that is cheap and easy without needing a million special tools. Only major issue with these is the intake manifolds cracking cause they're plastic and if its a Tr3650 they're usually solid but the T5 transmissions have trouble sometimes going into R or 1st which can be annoying. You just have to find a really good previous owner for these or you'll get screwed.

That’s interesting, my first mustang also had crazy drone and it had a cheap cai too, maybe you’re on to something
@tkleo200610 ай бұрын
Short ram intakes will make exhaust drone especially at low rpm’s. I experienced this with 4 cylinders cars as well. Best to stick with high quality but expensive cold air intakes where the intake cone is well below the bumper. I wish I had not sold my GT but at he time I didn’t know what to do. Mine was labeled as cold air. When I look at pics it was similar to yours and not down below the bumper enough to avoid droning.

I daily drive a 2003 Mustang V6 and a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis, which has the same engine as the 1999-2004 Mustang GT. The Grand Marquis has 387,000 miles on the original engine, and still runs like new. It's a good engine. The biggest problem with the Mustang GT is it's hideous ghetto wheels and lack of proper tires. Not only are they ugly as hell, but they won't hold up on normal roads, and the lack of proper tires will literally pound the entire car to pieces. Lowering it makes it 10 times worse. My 2003 Mustang came with 16" wheels, which I replaced with 15" wheels from a 2000 Mustang V6, so I could put real tires on it. They are slightly larger in diameter than the original tires, with much wider sidewalls. It has been fine since I bought it 5 years ago. It has NOT been lowered I learned how to drive a stick shift around age 10, in a 1949 Ford farm truck. I have a total of 5 cars, 2 of them are over 50 years old, and run just fine. The older the car, the longer it will likely last, because older cars were designed to be repaired, not replaced. My oldest car is a 1963 Chevy Nova SS. Or at least the body is. Everything else is new. You can't do that with newer cars.
