I’ve been braiding my hair for about 5 years since it got very long. It’s so much more comfortable than a ponytail or bun and the added fullness from the un braided “beachy”looking hair the next day is a bonus. I stumbled on a coconut oil based hair drying accelerator product that is amazing and shortens the dry time tremendously-5 minutes total dry time for me. I’m trying the “no shampoo” method, aka “no ‘poo”now but have been using good shampoo without sulfates etc for 6-7 years. My hair looks healthy and shiny but definitely not as think as it used to be. I’m sure hormones are the issue -thyroid. Thank you for the tips!

I have hypothyroidism and have experienced a lot of hair loss through the last 4 years even though I'm on medication to contain it, it didn't even occur to me that something else could be contributing to it but I recently found out my vitamin d is extremely low and I think it's contributing to the hair loss. Since I've been taking it regularly for the last couple of months I've seen a great decrease in the amount of hair that I lose when I shower and I'm so happy to start getting my hair on the mend again. I used to be known for my super thick curly hair and having such the change and how my hair looked and felt it made me so sad and self-conscious 😔

I'm so relieved there's possible hope for me! I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism early last year and was told to take vitamin D supplements with my thyroid meds. I have/had thick curly hair as well. Every time I shower- handful after handful of hair, comb my hair- handful after handful hair. It's jarring to see so much in my hands and around the drain. It's also frustrating how dry and brittle my hair feels despite all the conditioning. Reading your comment about your experience has definitely given me some hope of my hair going back to normal.

I've always been battling hair loss since I was a teenager, but been using castor, neem and tea tree oil with great results but listen, I recently got sick with a virus from hell, so bad pus was coming out my eyes, throat, nose and everywhere, lost my voice for a week, etc. A few days after getting better my hair started to come out in clumps, I only related the two events because my son also started losing hair. I've been only able to do buns ever since. Hopefully soon it will give me a break. 😭

I just found your channel! I am 76 years old and have decent hair, but it is thinning from age and possibly from a minor hypothyroidism issue. I take medication for that, but because of my age, I lose hair just about every time I wash it. I generally wash my hair no more than 3x a week, and I sleep on a silk pillowcase. Yet, my hair is usually very disheveled and wavy in the morning. My hairdresser told me to put it in a LOW LOOSE ponytail with a silk scrunchie. My hair is just to my shoulders. I would like to know what you think of this or if there's any other way where my hair will not be wavy in the morning 💕

Hey girl! Hair washing is such a personal thing in regards to how often you should do it. You don't want to wash TOO often because the detergent in the shampoos are too stripping of the natural oils but depending on the oil level of the scalp and the hair density, some people just have to wash more than once a week and that is totally okay. The reason you feel like your hair is falling out more is because when you wash it once a week, you are getting an entire week's worth of hair loss coming out all at one time. When you wash three times a week, you are getting the same hair loss but it looks like it is less since you are taking it out three times rather than just once (I've noticed the exact same thing with my hair too). Your hair is likely falling out the same amount. Do whatever is best for you and allows you to enjoy your hair the most (whether that is washing it once, twice or three times a week).

HI! A day or two after I saw/commented on your video about what makes a client a bad one - I saw my stylist. And I told her about the video and she laughed pretty hard. And subsequently gave me a stern talking to for giving $40 on a $28 bill. And I am still a week later - questioning if I should've given her more. I also had showed her recently one of Khloe K's badly photoshopped pictures (really blonde hair with the jacked up right hand) and how I loved the color. But while watching aforementioned video - I fell in love with the one blonde color photo and showed her. because I was realizing coming from my current shade to the KK picture was going to wreck my hair and freak me out. I could almost heat the relief coming from her!

I sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase. I also sleep on my side, my right side mostly because of the arrangement of sleeping my husband and I have. The hair on the right side of my head is always more damaged. I started putting it up in a bun using a plastic claw at the top to hold it in place. I've also braided it. It's still weaker, tangles way more, has more damage to the ends and in the length. I had extreme damage done to my hair in 2018 when my friend tried to color overtop of chlorine, messed it up, used color stripper, messed it up further, went to the Aveda training institute in Tampa/Clearwater and they totally fried it, color was 1000% wrong, just butchered my hair. It was UNREAL!! I had extreme breakage, cut off to a chin length bob, had an Aveda Salon owner do a color correction, and now nearly 4 years later, I still have issues on the right side of my hair. It's much longer now. I haven't colored my length since October 2020. I'm also suffering from Winter dryness and can't keep enough moisture in it to prevent it from instantly tangling if I wear a coat unless I braid it. Any thoughts?

Brushing hair when wet seems unnecessary to me. I understand what you mean by “rat nest” which happens when you’re in the shower washing the hair but for me it is better to condition it and just not mess with it until it is somewhat dry enough to manipulate (my hair is wavy not curly)
@cindypowell6358
@cindypowell6358 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. I literally hardly ever brush my hair when it’s really wet. I have a lot of hair, but’s it’s fine textured. I use a good conditioner/shine serum & use my fingers to gently de tangle it. I might gently comb through my ends a little. My hair is long & this is what works best for me. 💖🙂
@camijacobv
@camijacobv 2 жыл бұрын
@@cindypowell6358 I also have have long hair (going through classic length but goal is mid thigh) that is thin and brushing it in an attempt to detangle while in the shower feels terrible, like breaking hairs unnecessarily and a never ending mission anyways doesn’t it? (I sound like a hair comercial now lol) but from what I read hair is more elastic when wet which sounds like it’d be safe to brush or something but rather makes hair fragile and prone to stretches and friction which cause it damage or plain snapping in the moment. Detangling with serums or special oils using my fingers instead of any type of brush has made my hair considerably better and for those of us wanting long hair we gotta watch out for all the little things that can cause our long hairs to snap in half before their time actually comes to shed naturally. It’s really interesting how hair routines are so different, sometimes change is really inconceivable but it’s the only thing that will make a change. For example I laughed for years at my mother recommending I stop combing and using hair brushes like “what do you mean USE MY FINGERS? that’s not gonna get the job done and hands are a bit unhygienic to stick in hair so often” I used to think. Thing is I was ruining my curls at the bottom by brushing them since the comb only goes thru and snaps hairs instead of detangling, so I was ruining my length and my texture all in one. Yet I know girls who have to manage their hair with special combs else they also suffer their own kind of consequences. I know a friend recommended me I brush with a comb while my hair is wet in the shower but ofc I’m not doing that because I know it’s of no use and I’ll get no where only frustrated at the wet rat nest that cannot be controlled haha

So many things I disagree with on the hair thing. I grew my hair to my rear end in high school. Blonde and SUPER FINE. I'd wash it at night and sleep on it UNBRUSHED. That gave me the volume I needed for the next day and I was able to brush my super long hair when it was dry. It was so fine it just straightened right out. Also, I hate my silk pillow case. My face creams get on the sides (I sleep on my side) and then they get in my hair. Sorry, but those things really worked for me. I appreciate the other advice you have given. I need it!

Hey Nancy! Thanks so much for the comment! It is so individual and everyone's hair is so different. My biggest piece of advice is doing whatever works best for you. If sleeping on it wet and unbrushed works, then you do that for you. As long as you are not noticing excessive damage, then it's okay. A satin/silk bonnet can work but sometimes they slide off and you lose the benefits. A satin/silk pillowcase works better or you can use both to protect your hair. Never sleep with wet hair though that causes a lot of breakage and damage. Your hair is most fragile when it’s wet and the constant movement will ruin it.

Silk is best, satin is next best. I personally prefer Bonnets. But if u have too many problems Sliding of, Elastic giving out fast, etc. The next thing u can do is use a silk/satin scrunchie and a silk/satin pillow case. U still get the benefits with the bonnet problems.

I think washed my scalp for the first time ever after watching this video lol! Also, I realized that I have formed a strange habit of washing my hair in water that's on the cooler side, bcz I got it into my mind that hot water might shock my scalp and I'd lose more hair. :/ Wondering now whether there Is an optimum temp for washing?
@GlamGirlGabi

Yay to scalp washing!!!! That’s great. How did it feel? Hot water won’t make you lose more hair. The issue with hot water is that it opens the cuticle so it can make your hair color fade faster and can be a bit drying. That’s it. It won’t affect what is going on under the skin at the follicle level.

@@GlamGirlGabi It felt gooood ;) I realize now that between the lukewarm washing, and the(not)scalp cleaning I have been committing hair crimes haha! Gabi, you were so right about ppl not looking after the inside of the body and its effect on hair. I did lose a ton of hair(I'm prone to it anyway) bcz I wasn't watching my protein intake, being a vegetarian for decades I needed to make sure I had enough onboard and just didn't think of it until 3 months ago. I'm now seeing a difference in my hair yay for that! By the way, as others said you look gorge, you always do. I think we girls need to tell each other that more often. People say women dress nice for themselves and for other women, maybe that is true. I was walking down the street a few years ago and as I passed a woman coming from the other direction, as we passed she said..."You look really nice!" I was taken by surprise and said thank you as we carried on our way. What a great thing to do, I won't ever forget that. I haven't managed to pluck up the courage to do that myself, not yet anyway ;)

@@demetevans7249 Yes you nailed it! I had some issues with diet and nutrition as well and when I look back on all of my photos throughout the years, you can see exactly when I was "abusing" my body. My hair was so fine and dry. I think some people who have amazing hair genetics aren't as affected as others but for me, I definitely see a direct correlation between my internal health and my hair. Also - I LOVE THE COMMENT about the woman saying that you look nice. I was JUST THINKING about this actually because someone at the drive through a few days ago bought me my order for no reason and it made my heart shine for days. I am such a girl's girl and I feel like it is so important to adjust each other's crowns and never ever tear them down. Love that shirt!!! Lupus causes my hair to be dried out when it acts up. It’s pretty brittle at the moment. But I am doing a few of these things so I’ll make some changes and see if it’ll help. Quick question… My son is 16 & letting his hair grow out, he has always worn it short in a almost a military style cut, so this is a new thing to get use to in styling. He has super thick hair and who knew but he has these big curls that are hard to control. So I am trying to find a product to help tame his curls. But the biggest issue we are having though is his hair seems dry just out of the shower but by the end of the day it is already oily. I have tried so many shampoo and conditioners over the last year, from $5 to $25 versions. We give each one about a month to see if it’ll work for him so I don’t think we are giving up to soon on them. Do you have any recommendations on a good shampoo/conditioner for him and maybe a curl taming product? Thank you. Edit~ I already make sure they are sulfate free as we are both allergic to sulfates. I just watched your drugstore video and I will try two of those next for sure.

The curly girl method is the only thing that works on hair like that.Try it. Follow the instructions thorrowly and be sure to start with a deep cleansing shampoo before starting. There are shampoos without sulfates for that purpose too. Throw away all products containing cilicones. ALL PRODUCTS. Read the ingredients lists carefully. Watch KZbin videos on the curly girl method and also google about all the chemicals to avoid in products. Curly Susy is one of the best youtubers for CGM. Look for her instructual videos, most certainly the most viewed ones to get a proper introduction. The Curly Girl Method is good for all hairtypes btw so not only for your son, you should try it too. My hair has never looked so good and I get compliments everyday nowadays for my curls which never happend when I was young.

Definitely no heat styling either and no styling products. No coloring for me either. I wash it around once a week or when I feel like it needs it and I focus on my scalp rather than the length of my hair. Definitely no harsh shampoos and no sulfates at all. It's very easy to maintain and I get compliments on it all the time. I think good nutrition and plenty of protein play a big part in hair health.

You can try making a low loose bun with a soft scrunchie.. It won't bother the neck and you'll sleep well with a protective hairstyle. I do it because I have thick semi wavy hair and it helps me tame the texture and frizz naturally for the mornings (because I wake up with loose waves because of the loose bun).

For wavy/curly hair, the soft tip brushes can cause a lot of frizz and mess with your natural curl pattern if you comb with them after the shower. I usually use the tiniest bit of shea butter or leave in detangler/conditioner and comb it through my hair with my fingers. I've got long, fine, coloured, curly hair that falls up to my waist, and this method helps keep my hair from breaking while its wet, but also breaking because of a dry comb and it helps keep my natural curl pattern intact!

I feel like a whack, I try to wash my butt-length hair in cool water, and not brushing it too much with a wide tooth comb afterwards cos otherwise the knots are atrocious - I have to brush it a little bit or end up with a freakin' rat's nest 😅 I've also found that the microfibre turbans do great with drying the hair while holding it off my face as I got t h I C C curly hair and it takes up to 3hrs to dry normally. Still, good tips to remember, and be on the hunt for the perfect shampoo and conditioner for my hair type!

Thank you for this video!!!! Quick question. I was sleeping with my hair (not wet) but 90 percent dry, but in two french or dutch braids... This is when my hair was shorter, so they weren't loose braids, they were small section, kinda tight, braids.. I had assumed it was a protective hair style... but now I'm thinking maybe the tension is what attributed to the breakage I have on the top front of my hair? (could also be because I do heavy highlights around my face, and sometimes have to do 2 rounds when I remove the foils too soon). Let me know if you can, because I really truly thought my dutch/boxer braids were protecting my hair during sleep!
@Aphrodite01
@Aphrodite01 2 жыл бұрын
Make sure your hair is fully dry before sleeping. The highlights are causing damage as well as the braids. If you do the same tight hairstyle in the same position it’ll cause traction alopecia, damage and thinning. It’s better to do a loose style or leave your hair down using a satin/silk pillowcase. I do the latter and my hair is healthy.

I'm not a hairdresser but I wash my hair once a week (twice in one wash). I'd recommend you do a lot of masks and oil treatments since you're home anyway and you could leave them in for long. You don't have to wash your hair everyday, it's good to leave it alone like you said unless you feel the need (like itchiness/flaking). My hair doesn't even look dirty until the 6th day because I trained my scalp not to get oily quickly. But when you do wash I wouldn't recommend using only water. The scalp should be properly cleansed with shampoo for healthy hair. If your hair doesn't get extremely tangled you don't need to brush everyday either since brushes can snap hair off - you can use your fingers and a brush the next day.

The postpartum hair loss is REAL! I just gave birth to my youngest 3 months ago and I am stuck in the middle of that unrelenting hair fall right now. 😫 I've always already had, what I would consider to be, fairly severe postpartum hair loss after each of my babies were born, but this time specifically, maybe because my age is now a factor too, I'm seriously starting to become concerned about it! I swear, it literally jumps off off my head if you even just look at it the wrong way! I tend to always forget about this phase because those newborn days are spent in such an exhausted haze, so just be warned if you're planning on a future pregnancy, after you give birth you may very well find yourself losing arm loads of your hair!
