Daily Vlog: The search for Taho

I'm almost convinced that Taho vendors in the Philippines don't exist. I've had the most difficult time finding any of them!

Hi Kuya Kurt! I just want to say that what you mention as 'paminta' is actually 'siling labuyo or sili' (chili). The red chili is called 'siling labuyo' and it can be pretty spicy, and the other is the green chili called 'siling haba' in tagalog although there are other variations of the name depends on the region and dialect. The siling haba is almost as long as a finger and is mildly spicy, we often use it in soup-based meals and 'dinamita/dynamite'. As for the taho vendors, they are normally out and about very early in the morning at around 5 or 6 am though some are around up to about 10am but the latter time is a little rare. Recently, if you go to malls, they do also sell taho, though it's pricier than the street vendors. For some of the meals: Liempo (lih-YEHM-po) - Sometimes grilled or fried, though from the looks of your ulam Kuya Kurt, it looked like you got the lechong/litson kawali (deep-fried pork belly). They can be a little on the expensive side they can go from around 50-70 pesos. Binagoongan (bih-na-go-O-ngan) - This is usually made with pork but any meat or vegetables will do as well. It is sauteed or braised with alamang (fermented shrimp), it's very salty and has a very strong sfishy smell, so eat it with plain white rice and only when you're at home because the smell is very strong. Chicken Curry - Well, curry with chicken, potatoes and carrots, simmered in coconut milk and, depends on the family or area, sometimes have a smidge of vinegar. My family sometimes add vinegar in our chicken curry. Nilagang Itlog (nih-LAH-gang it-LOG) - Usually (hard)-boiled egg. To be honest a lot of food in the carinderias are pretty expensive nowadays, before any meal that has meat (with the exception of any grilled meals or beef meals) is around 40-50 pesos, but nowadays it can go up to 70 pesos not including the rice. And for the grilled meal or beef it's a little more expensive than that. I hope this helps you out.🥰

Na afam price ka Kurt, yung pork should be between 60 to 80 and 50 to 60 for the chicken. Rice is between 10 to 12. Nakaka inis yung mga ganyang pinoy but you are so kind, many will support you.

Meanwhile, we just bought some Mexican food here in Los Angeles which came up to $82 (most of our to-go orders average out to this) or PHP 4,720.45. I'm so tired of this US inflation. It feels like we're getting screwed every time we buy something. I miss the GREAT FOOD in the Philippines with the more than reasonable prices. I also love tipping in the Philippines and seeing people's gratitude which we SORELY LACK here in the US. Seriously, folks. Try to go Divisoria you lots of food vendors there,but be careful for pick pockets, be safe❤❤❤go early in morning cz the weather now in the Philippines is high and lot people there,bring mineral water sapin salt liked at pang punas pawis ,be safe

In 90’s when I was a kid Taho is normally at early in the morning like 7am to 10am

Taho they are actually early in the morning not Eleven o clock. They literally out and selling at 6am to 7am. There is no way of selling taho at 11am cause it's really hot at that time.🔥

That’s weird when I was in PH I usually hear Taho in the morning around 6-8am. Oh and There’s a new taho shop in MOA that’s where I got mine when I was craving one when I was back home.

Kuya, thanks for being honest with your health condition. You don't have to actually veer away from fried foods kuya. The only key there is balance out your meal.....always have some fiber, fruits and vegetables in every meal.....PORK LIEMPO WITH GARLIC RICE, PAIR IT WITH A LITTLE SALAD LIKE ROMAINE LETTUCE, GREEN BELL PEPPERS, CUCUMBER....and then maybe have some banana or watermelon as dessert after every meal...plus! Always hydrate yourself.....water water water......

that is super cheap for P200. a cup of rice is P20-25.. and you got two.. so that is already P50. You have liempo (pork belly) and Chicken Curry for P150.. Very Cheap!
